Vladimir Putin Expected to Win Presidential Election, Opposition Warns of Electoral Fraud
WASHINGTON, March 1, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Many opponents of Vladimir Putin believe that the following joke offers the best analysis of Russia's March 4 presidential election:
"Boss, I have good news and bad news."
"The good news first," Vladimir Putin responds.
"You won the election."
"That's great, and what is the bad news?" Putin asks.
"Nobody voted for you."
As the Putin election team has managed to organize massive pro-Putin gatherings and some public opinion polls show that he may be elected Russia's new president with two-thirds of the vote, many opposition activists warn against election fraud and are prepared to publicize any election irregularities that they may encounter.
Putin's authority has recently been challenged by huge demonstrations in many Russian cities and several observers claim that Putin faces difficult times in his third term as president.
