Vernier's 'Video Physics for iOS' Named a 2012 SIIA CODiE Awards Finalist
Video analysis app recognized in the Best Educational Use of a Mobile Device category
BEAVERTON, Ore., May 3, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) recently named Vernier's Video Physics a 2012 SIIA CODiE Awards finalist. Developed by Vernier Software & Technology, the video analysis application for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad was recognized in the Best Educational Use of a Mobile Device category. This category honors the best educational application, either curriculum or administrative, that is delivered to mobile devices, including smartphones, tablets, or integrated web-based, hardware/software solutions.
Available on the the App Store, Video Physics allows physics students and teachers to perform on-the-go analysis of interesting motion. Students and teachers can take a video of an object in motion, mark its position frame by frame, and set up the scale using a known distance. Video Physics then draws a trajectory and creates position and velocity graphs for the object. The application also allows for sharing of video, graphs, and data to Facebook, the Camera Roll, and computers running Vernier's Logger Pro software.
"Video Physics provides an easily accessible and intuitive app that allows physics students and instructors to bring video analysis out of the lab and into the field," said David Vernier, co-founder of Vernier Software & Technology and a former physics teacher. "Being recognized by this industry-leading awards program is a great honor for the engineers who developed Video Physics and for our whole company as we continue to provide innovative and engaging STEM technologies."
The CODiE Awards, originally called the Excellence in Software Awards, were established in 1986 by the Software Publishers Association (SPA), now SIIA. The awards are designed to showcase the software and information industry's finest products and services and to honor excellence in corporate achievement.
This year, for the first time, products nominated in the education categories were reviewed solely by educators who evaluated products through live demonstrations, trial access, and supplementary documentation. Educators selected the 128 product finalists in 23 categories. SIIA members will now select the winners from among the finalists during the SIIA member voting phase of the program before winners are announced on May 7, 2012.
