Vernier Expands Logger Pro® 3 Capabilities to Wirelessly Share Data with iPad® and Mobile Devices
Logger Pro 3 joins Vernier's Connected Science System® allowing instructors and students to access and collaborate on data from laboratory experiments
BEAVERTON, Ore., July 1, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Vernier Software & Technology has added its Logger Pro 3 software to the Connected Science System, a networked collection of technology that expands the ability to use data collected with Vernier's data-collection devices. This addition allows teachers and students to wirelessly share data from Logger Pro with Data Sharing enabled to multiple mobile devices, including iPad, Chromebook™ notebook computers, Android™ devices, and more.
Teachers and students can use LabQuest 2 or a computer running Logger Pro 3 software (version 3.8.6 or newer) with Data Sharing enabled and one of Vernier's computer interfaces (LabPro, LabQuest, LabQuest Mini, or Go!Link) to share and analyze data collected by Vernier's sensors. This takes advantage of the technologies already purchased for the classroom, while incorporating new opportunities for student learning.
"For the teacher who already owns many Vernier sensors and interfaces, using Logger Pro 3 as a data source to wirelessly stream data to mobile devices is the least expensive way to incorporate tablets into the science classroom," said David Vernier, co-founder of Vernier and a former physics teacher. "We added Data Sharing features to Logger Pro 3 for those customers who need flexible, affordable technology."
With Data Sharing enabled, Logger Pro can share data using the Vernier Data Share web app (available at no additional cost), allowing students to use a compatible web browser, such as Safari® or Chrome™, to wirelessly collect, view, and analyze sensor data. Graphical Analysis™ for iPad can also be purchased from the iTunes® App Store and used as a native iPad app to receive data on iPad from Logger Pro.
After the data is collected, each student wirelessly receives an individual copy of the data for analysis. Students can annotate the data, perform curve fits, and make statistical calculations to build evidence of understanding. Students can share their data and analysis with their teacher or take it home for further analysis on their mobile devices. Additionally, teachers can share their demonstration data – or a lab group's data – with the whole class and remotely monitor lengthy experiments being conducted outside of the classroom.
