- Renowned series addresses issues impacting America in a global economy -
WASHINGTON, Dec. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez was invited to participate in the Johnson & Strachan Distinguished Speaker Series at the George Mason University School of Management this December. The series was developed to introduce students, faculty and alumni to diverse American business leaders and decision makers and engage them in critical discussions about America's position in an increasingly global economy.
As the leading advocate for nearly three million Hispanic-owned businesses and over 200 local Hispanic chambers throughout the United States, Palomarez brought a unique and powerful perspective to the series, sharing his experiences and learnings as one of the country's top Hispanic business leaders.
"We are committed to providing our students access to visionary business leaders both in and out of the classroom," said Jorge Haddock, dean of George Mason University's School of Management. "To host Mr. Palomarez—with his extraordinary experience and background—as our latest guest speaker in the Johnson & Strachan Distinguished Speaker Series enables our diverse student body to explore the possibilities of their own future careers."
The Speaker Series is a community-based initiative, developed to enhance the educational experience at George Mason University's School of Management. Through this initiative, participants are able to expand their professional network among the country's executive-level business community, and be brought to the forefront of the topics and issues facing American businesses today.
"Mr. Palomarez' participation in the Johnson & Strachan Distinguisher Speaker Series accomplishes one of the primary goals we have for the series, which is to bring people with diverse backgrounds to George Mason University and the local community to share economic or political insights that can help them in their education, or in the way they approach running their businesses," stated Jeff Johnson, Chairman and CEO of Johnson & Strachan. "Mr. Palomarez' presentation focused on the importance of Hispanic business to the overall health of the U.S. economy was very enlightening; something that often gets overshadowed by the immigration discussion."
Previous speakers in the series include the likes of Newt Gingrich, Former Speaker of the House and Republican Presidential Candidate; Patricia Sellers, Editor at Large, Fortune Magazine; Thomas Webb, CFO of CMS Corporation; and David M. Walker, Former U.S. Comptroller General.
"As the leader of the USHCC, Palomarez' participation in this distinguished speaker series indicates the tremendous successes our Hispanic businesses have achieved," said USHCC Chairman, Nina Vaca. "While there are a variety of critical factors impacting both the U.S. and global economy, the reality is, Hispanic businesses are growing at a faster rate than any other segment of the U.S. population, and with that growth comes solid leadership and significant expertise. We are both proud and honored that Palomarez was called upon to participate in the Johnson & Strachan Speaker Series."
