U.S. Postal Service Honors The Gordian Group with Supplier Excellence Award
MAUDLIN, S.C., May 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Gordian Group was one of two companies honored with a 2010 Supplier Excellence Award from the U.S. Postal Service for superior supply-chain performance. The company was recognized for making outstanding contributions to the success of the Postal Service.
The Gordian Group and Western Industrial Contractors received the Supplier Excellence Award at the Postal Service's headquarters in Washington, D.C. Other recipients of supplier performance awards included Eaton Corporation, NCR Corporation and W.W. Grainger, Inc.
Postmaster General Patrick R. Donahoe presented the awards to the group. "Your continued innovative ideas help the Postal Service grow the business, improve the customer experience, and help make us leaner, faster and smarter," he said. "Your partnership has enabled us to accomplish good things, and I appreciate that you've given your best to the Postal Service and to the American people."
Chairman of the Board and Co-founder of The Gordian Group, Harry Mellon, accepted the award on behalf of the company's 125 employees. "This recognition demonstrates The Gordian Group's commitment to deliver outstanding customer service to every client every day," he said. "Working with the Postal Service, we have shown Job Order Contracting can help clients complete a range of ordinary and extraordinary projects."
"The Gordian Group is honored and touched to receive this award," said Robert Coffey, President and CEO. "We hold our relationship with the Postal Service and our many teammates there in the highest regard and are proud of our success developing and implementing a Job Order Contracting program that provides such significant benefits. The success of the program is due to dozens of people in both organizations who rolled up their sleeves and got this work accomplished. This prestigious award is due to their effort, and I want to take this opportunity to thank them."
The Gordian Group began providing Job Order Contracting to the Postal Service in 2002 at one regional facility. Since then, the Postal Service's Job Order Contracting program has spread nationwide and is used by all regional offices for a multitude of projects from hurricane clean-ups to installation of energy-conservation projects.
The Gordian Group's Job Order Contracting system is a competitively solicited construction procurement system. It enables facility owners to complete large numbers of repair, alteration, maintenance and construction projects in less time than traditional procurement methods and at prices typically below owners' estimates.
Unlike traditional procurement, where each project is identified, designed or engineered and then put out to bid, Job Order Contracting is able to fast-track the process by establishing prices prior to work requirements being identified.
