U.S. Employers Follow Path to Successful Overseas Surgeries: ABC News Spotlights Medical Tourism Association® Partners
LAS VEGAS, Oct. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As players in the healthcare reform debate feud and force the temporary shutdown of the U.S. government, the medical tourism industry not only remains open for business, but continues to thrive.
The Medical Tourism Association® welcomed home two of the most recently satisfied patients, Joy Guion and Gary Harwell, employees of HSM, a U.S. furniture and auto parts manufacturer in North Carolina which sent them to successful overseas surgical procedures at Hospital Clinica Biblica in Costa Rica. Their case study was featured on segments of "ABC's World News Tonight with Diane Sawyer," Sept. 30, and later that night on "Nightline" (Watch the Video) following a consolidated effort of the Medical Tourism Association® and its employer and hospital members to bring the story to international recognition.
"As more patients explore cost-effective ways to spend dwindling healthcare dollars overseas, trust becomes more than a handshake or a late-night Internet search," said Renée-Marie Stephano, President of the Medical Tourism Association®, "Rather, trust should also mean peace of mind -- a daunting mental state to achieve for both employer, employee and healthcare providers involved in an overseas medical connection."
Stephano said the Medical Tourism Association® serves as a flexible platform for its members – like HSM and Hospital Clinica Biblica – to connect, obtain training and certification, and develop strategies for employers seeking innovative ways to cut costs. Many other groups like HSM, which has saved nearly $10 million in the past five years, have turned to the Medical Tourism Association® for direction in building medical networks beyond borders.
Some 2,000 industry stakeholders will convene in Las Vegas Nov. 3-6, 2013 for the 6th World Tourism & Global Healthcare Congress, and offered a specialized workshop, "Healthcare Reform Opportunities for International Healthcare Providers," designed to empower with clear understanding of U.S. Healthcare Reform and encouraging more insurance companies, employers and payors to seek innovative solutions and medical tourism. International participants will receive concierge networking meeting service to unite international providers with U.S. payors.
The Medical Tourism Association® is the first membership-based international nonprofit trade association for the international health and wellness industry made up of top international healthcare providers, facilitators, travel agents, and other affiliates committed to highest level services for health and wellness seekers worldwide. www.MedicalTourismAssociation.com
