WASHINGTON, Jan. 25, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The US Drug Watchdog typically is attempting to increase US consumer awareness about potentially harmful pharmaceutical products or medical devices. However, the group is now extremely concerned about how the news media and politicians are portraying the 'US Opioid Crisis-Epidemic' because these terms are both misleading, confusing and not completely honest. They are now suggesting the new name for this 'crisis' be the US Heroin-Fentanyl Epidemic - because that is exactly what they believe it to be.
Further implying US drug makers are at the epicenter of this 'epidemic' would not be accurate. Did some US based drug companies play a significant role in over prescribing opioid drugs such as Oxycodone or Opioid type medications? The answer is - Yes. But this would be a simplistic answer to a much more complex question.
According to the US Drug Watchdog, "US based pharmaceutical companies are not selling heroin on the streets, in middle schools, or high schools around the nation, nor are they selling street fentanyl. These drugs are primarily being imported into the United States by Mexican Drug Cartels and US deaths that are related to these drugs now exceed domestic car accidents. Chinese drug counterfeiters also have contributed significantly to this problem by supplying Mexican cartels with fentanyl and or mailing narcotics to US consumers via the US mail." http://USDrugWatchdog.Com
In an April 15th 2014 press release from a group affiliated with the US Drug Watchdog, the following comment about counterfeit drugs including opioids being mailed from Chinese counterfeiters via the US Postal Service was made: "We are not talking about rocket science for the US Postal Service; if they need help, we will train their inspectors so they know what to look for, and how to send it back to China." The group is still offering to assist pharmaceutical company executives and US law enforcement with these issues. The invitation has been out there for 10+ years. http://GP-CC.Com
In 2006 Chinese and Indian drug counterfeiters were mailing their counterfeit pharmaceutical products into the USA via the US Postal Service, and the group could have proved it. The Chinese had been sending narcotics via the US Mail for well over a decade. Fast forward to January 2018 and a significant percentage of opioid type drugs being sold on the street are counterfeits and they are produced in China, India and now Mexico. Today most heroin, fentanyl or the combination of both is coming directly into the USA from Mexico via our shared 2000-mile-long-open border.
Has the US government done anything to curb US drug makers from contributing to the wide spread use of legal opioid medications in the United States? Yes. In July of 2017 the Department of Justice announced the first of what could be many settlements involving US drug makers: https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/mallinckrodt-agrees-pay-record-35-million-settlement-failure-report-suspicious-orders
As highlighted by an amazing CBS 60 Minutes News Program in the Fall of 2017, US Opioid overdoses are a huge national problem. One CBS news Story that aired on October 16, 2017 made the statement: "To bring the opioid addiction epidemic under control, the medical community must be more cautious about prescribing opioids." Not one mention of Mexican Drug Cartels or these type organizations flooding the US with heroin and fentanyl. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/opioid-addiction-epidemic-in-6-charts/.
According to the US Drug Watchdog, "The problem with the 'US Opioid addiction epidemic' is that unless you directly mention or highlight US Citizens dying from heroin and fentanyl overdoses and point the finger at the Mexican Drug Cartels, and then go after them, you will never get this 'epidemic' under control, and you cannot hold US drug makers accountable for an epidemic they may have helped start-but an epidemic they no longer control today, nor have they controlled for some time." http://USDrugWatchdog.Com
