ARLINGTON, Va., March 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Recognizing the vital importance of developing our nation's next generation of engineers, scientists and technical professionals, the U.S. Army continues its partnership with the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) for the sixth year. The partnership includes the Army's participation at the NSBE Annual Convention March 29 – April 2 in Kansas City, Mo. as a member of the organization's Board of Corporate Affiliates (BCA).
At the convention, the Army will provide students with information about educational resources and career opportunities available in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). This effort to better support tomorrow's brilliant leaders in STEM helps the Army to lay a stronger foundation for success for young African-American professionals.
The five-day conference kicks off on Wednesday, March 29 at the Kansas City Convention Center. Through its participation in meetings such as the Senior Executive Leadership Forum, the Army will work with NSBE and fellow Board of Corporate Affiliate members to support ongoing initiatives impacting African-American youth, including NSBE's 2025 campaign, "Be One of 10,000," which aims to increase the annual number of African-Americans earning bachelor's degrees in engineering to 10,000 by 2025. In addition, the Army will host an interactive exhibit to allow participants to experience Army technology, including robotics and a Tube Ultra display.
"The U.S. Army is at the forefront of many of today's innovations in science and technology, making NSBE the ideal partner to elevate professional opportunities for African-American youth," stated Lt. Col. Michelle Nhambure, program manager for the U.S. Army Marketing and Research Group. "The Army is proud to invest resources that will lead to long-term success for these students and benefit our nation."
The Army's partnership with NSBE is consistent with its continued focus on leadership development and education. Last year, the Army awarded more than $280 million in ROTC scholarships to students at more than 275 colleges and universities across the country.
Additionally, the Army has more than 150 career paths, including in-demand fields such as information technology, engineering and health care, among others. For more information, please visit www.goarmy.com.
