University of the Pacific Partners with Teach-Now to Provide Master's Degree
STOCKTON, Calif., Nov. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The University of the Pacific has partnered with Washington D.C. based, Teach-Now, to deliver an online Master of Arts Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and California teaching credential. The collaboration allows for candidates from all around the world to obtain the master's degree from the University of the Pacific without having to give up their current occupation. The first semester begins in January 2014.
As a traditional brick-and-mortar university, the University of the Pacific saw fit to work together with Teach-Now, an online teacher preparation organization, to deliver an accelerated and affordable program. Candidates for the master's degree will go through the 9-month Teach-Now program in a cohort consisting of no more than 15 students. The program is completely activity-based, with all assignments completed and evaluated on a virtual classroom forum. Candidates learn strictly online for the first 6 months from Teach-Now's world-class instructors, before completing the final 3 months of the program in an actual classroom applying the skills they have acquired. Most candidates cannot, with their family and adult responsibilities, take several years to pursue a teaching credential. We had to make it intensive and meet them where they are," said Michael Elium, the assistant dean of the Stockton, Calif.-based University's education school. "They need intense, high-quality, and affordable preparation. Candidates will have several opportunities to experience the real world of teaching -- in person as well as virtually -- throughout the program. We wanted to give anyone in the country the ability to take the first step to teaching in and moving to California. The innovative culture of California was a perfect match with the Teach-Now program."
Describing the program, Emily Feistritzer, Ph.D., Founder and President of Teach-Now, says, "Teach-Now equips, enables, and empowers teachers to go into any learning environment anywhere in the world and diagnose where the learners are socioeconomically, in ability and achievement, and design and implement learning experiences to ensure they learn, grow and develop." Enrollment in this program is now open for the January 2014 semester.
