PHOENIX, May 1, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- University of Phoenix has self-published an original children's book, The Dragon Who Learned to Fly, which tells the story of a mother dragon who was always too busy to learn to fly – until a bird taught her how. The book honors the commitment of working parents, who find the time for education without sacrificing raising a family.
In The Dragon Who Learned to Fly, a mother dragon is constantly using her wings to take care of others, including her three baby dragons, and not for their intended purpose. The bird – representing University of Phoenix – shows her how to find time in the morning, day or at night to nurture those she loves and reach her full potential. The dragon's story demonstrates that anyone can pursue a degree while juggling multiple responsibilities.
"Our students are the inspiration behind the book because they often seek a degree not only for themselves but also for their family. Many of them are adults in their thirties or older, who enroll with a job and children who depend on them," said Dr. John Woods, Chief Academic Officer and Provost of University of Phoenix. "Managing these conflicting responsibilities and still finding time for education is an accomplishment they should be proud of. We're excited to tell their story through a medium they can share with their biggest supporters throughout their academic journey – their children."
As portrayed in the book, one of the primary barriers holding many adults back from pursuing an education is the feeling of not having enough time to manage life and school. Since its founding in 1976, University of Phoenix has been positioned to understand the needs of busy adults and has graduated more than one million alumni. The University offers flexible course schedules and courses that can be taken one five- to six weeks at a time so that students can always be there for their family.
"Family often comes first, second and third for our students. This book demonstrates how University of Phoenix can help working parents and busy adults find the time to pursue higher education with a structure designed with them in mind," said Joan Blackwood, Chief Marketing Officer. "Our students are not only Phoenixes – they're mighty dragons – and we hope this book will empower and encourage them to discover where their wings can take them."
The Dragon Who Learned to Fly was illustrated and authored by the University's agency of record 180LA. University of Phoenix and 180LA will feature the book in the national advertising campaign "Discover Your Wings." Launching today, the campaign features a 60-second commercial of a young boy reading The Dragon Who Learned to Fly, paralleling the journey of his working mother, who attends University of Phoenix to pursue career enhancement opportunities through education.
