"We are excited to offer this software development IP package to our global base of buyers. The universal nature of this IP, coupled with reduced development time and costs benefits, make this an important portfolio for system integrators and software development tool providers," says Dean Becker, CEO of ICAP Patent Brokerage.
Key Characteristics & Benefits
The portfolio for sale includes an improved protocol emulator that can imitate a variety of components. Conventional software development tools, such as bus analyzers and custom protocol emulators, can imitate a system environment so that a system-under-test can be checked properly. However, these tools either cannot encode or decode messages into human readable formats, or they must be developed from scratch, and may be restricted to a single component. As a result, such development tools require significant time and money and are prone to human errors.
The offered IP package provides an improved protocol emulator that can emulate a variety of components with little or no development effort. The emulator encodes and decodes messages passed to and from connected components in a network by using an Interface Control Document (ICD) file that specifies the formats of the data messages transmitted to and from a system-under-test. Also, the emulator can display, define, log, graph, and script message data in a human-readable format. As a result, the development time of the emulator test tool is reduced by a factor of ten. Further, the disclosed emulator removes human errors and reduces the need for expensive hardware associated with the emulated device(s), such as antennas or A/D converters. Even more, this emulator eliminates the requirement for testing of custom protocol emulators that are developed from scratch by investing significant engineering hours.
The portfolio is highly relevant to system integrators and software development tool providers as this component emulator has a wide spectrum of application areas, including aerospace/defense, manufacturing, automation, robotics, and telecommunications.
Along with the patent, the IP package includes a complete, tested, and market-proven source code embodiment.
