Unisys Helps U.S. National Archives and Records Administration Complete Transition to Google Apps for Government Cloud-Based Email and Collaboration System
Transition sets national records agency on path to cost savings and greater efficiency
BLUE BELL, Pa., May 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) today announced the successful completion of a project to transition about 4,500 users at U.S. National Archives and Records Administration to Google Apps for Government, a cloud-based email and collaboration solution.
The National Archives expects the move to the cloud-based solution to allow employees to share information technology infrastructure, resources and applications while helping them to collaborate with each other and with individuals and organizations outside of the agency. The solution is designed to give the agency employees secure and efficient access to email and data while cutting operational costs and improving system uptime and availability.
The transition was performed under a contract awarded to Unisys in November 2012 by the National Archives, the nation's record keeper. The new cloud-based solution will help the agency perform its record management duties to safeguard and preserve U.S. government records.
Unisys assisted the National Archives in all aspects of the transition to the new cloud-based solution. In addition to installing the solution, Unisys integrated it with a new records management solution that meets the extremely high standards of the National Archives. Unisys also provided strategic communications services, including training videos for employees to help them adapt to the new solution, explain the new capabilities of the Google Apps for Government solution and what they need to do for a smooth transition.
The National Archives transition is the fourth successful move to the Google Apps for Government solution performed by Unisys. It follows Unisys' recent announcement that it had completed the transition of 5,000 employees at the Department of Energy's Idaho National Laboratory to the cloud-based Google Apps for Government solution. Last year, Unisys also completed a similar transition of 25,000 employees at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Prior to that, Unisys announced the transition of 17,000 GSA employees to the Google solution. The project made GSA the first federal government agency to migrate all of its employees to a cloud-based email environment.
