The U.S. Department of State offers warnings and alerts for citizens traveling outside of the U.S.
BEDFORD, Texas, Oct. 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Department of State issued an alert for travel in certain regions of Laos due to unstable security concerns. Reports of violent crimes have been reported in these areas and U.S. citizens in Laos should take extreme precautions for their safety and keep updated on local developments in these regions.
A travel warning was issued on October 5 recommending people avoid travel to Afghanistan because of threats by terrorist activities against U.S. citizens. Recent attacks include kidnapping, landmines, explosive devices, hostage taking and suicide bombings. Public places where large numbers of people gather such as restaurants, hotels, airports and schools should be avoided.
An alert issued on October 6, 2016, coincides with the South Pacific Tropical Cyclone Season that begins on November 1st and ends April 30, 2017. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration suggests people be ready and prepared at anytime for a quick evacuation. Tropical storms can develop rapidly making it imperative to act swiftly. The October 6th warning for Yemen is due to the ongoing threat of terrorism. The warning advises against all travel to Yemen and for those U.S. citizens living in Yemen, to depart as soon as possible. The threat of kidnappings and holding hostages along with rebel groups detaining U.S. citizens in Sanaa is high and the local government is limited to the assistance it can provide. U.S. citizens have been detained for up to a year with no ability to reach out to loved ones. In addition, the infrastructure of Yemen is severely compromised, limiting travel and the basic supplies of food, water and medicine.
A warning was issued on October 7th for Pakistan due to the significant threat of violent crimes and terrorists' activities that continue to target U.S. citizens throughout Pakistan. Terrorists groups in the area are known to resort to kidnapping Americans for ransom.
On October 7th, The U.S. Department of State issued a warning of ongoing violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Armed groups are responsible for recent murders, kidnappings, and robberies in some major cities. Local authorities are limited to respond due to the poor infrastructure that exists throughout the country.
As of October 11th, no part of Syria is considered safe and The U.S. Department of State is urging all U.S. citizens to depart immediately. Extreme terrorist groups are responsible for bombings, chemical warfare and kidnappings that have been directed at U.S. citizens throughout Syria.
