UJA-Federation of New York Raises $207 Million

NEW YORK, July 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- UJA-Federation of New York raised a total of $207.8 million this year, an increase of $21.8 million over last year. The annual campaign, which concluded on June 30th, raised $150.8 million, an increase of $3.9 million over 2014. $33.9 million came through planned giving and endowments and $23.1 million was raised for capital projects and special initiatives.* Nearly 53,000 donors contributed during the year.

"Over the past year, our community proved its resolve to support those in need — whether displaced persons in Ukraine, children in Sderot, or agencies in New York that required our assistance and expertise. Our community response underscores the vital, unique role UJA-Federation plays as a global safety net, protecting vulnerable populations and providing significant resources to address the most pressing needs, both in crisis and every day," said Eric S. Goldstein, who celebrated his one-year anniversary as CEO of UJA-Federation in July.

"This fundraising accomplishment is testament to a tremendously caring and committed community, one that I am proud to be part of," said UJA-Federation President Alisa R. Doctoroff. "It is also truly remarkable to see how such generosity is put to good use in the work being done in UJA's network of health, human-service, education, and community-based agencies that spans New York and around the world."

UJA-Federation's annual campaign remains the single largest philanthropic effort by any local community anywhere in the world. The 2015 general campaign co-chairs are Jeffrey A. Schoenfeld and Jeffrey M. Stern. Mark D. Medin serves as UJA-Federation executive vice president of Financial Resource Development responsible for all fundraising efforts.

*The special-initiative effort includes primarily funds raised for the Israel Emergency Campaign and funds for UJA-Federation's Community Initiative for Holocaust Survivors (CIHS) raised through the Defiant Requiem benefit concert. CIHS funds critical services such as case management, mental-health care, socialization opportunities, and end-of-life care to help survivors live with independence, comfort, and dignity.
