NEW YORK, June 16, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- theEMPLOYEEapp, a mobile-first employee communications and engagement solution for frontline workers, announced that its customized mobile app served as a "lifeline" for employees of United Health Services (UHS) based in greater Broome County of New York. UHS deployed theEMPLOYEEapp across its workforce in late 2019 with the goal of keeping everyone, including their remote and deskless healthcare workers, informed and engaged. Less than a year after installing the customized, secure app, UHS found its communications strategy undergoing the ultimate test as the COVID-19 pandemic swept across the United States–and through their own community.
Within days of COVID-19 impacting Broome County and the wider state of New York, UHS relied on a branded version of theEMPLOYEEapp, called UHS Connections, to share important safety information and policy updates with healthcare workers. UHS also uses the app to stay connected with employees that have been furloughed or are staying home due to risks.
"As a healthcare organization, we suddenly found ourselves on the front lines of a global pandemic. theEMPLOYEEapp became our lifeline to the employees who were home and here working every day," said Steven Perlin, manager of internal and external communications at United Health Service. "We have had more and more people sign up and tell us how happy they were to be able to get these updates right on their phone. In this time of extreme uncertainty, we were able to bring information right to the people who needed it, which wouldn't have been possible without theEMPLOYEEapp."
Healthcare frontline workers at UHS have been treating patients infected with COVID-19 on a daily basis. As new information kept coming in, UHS was constantly updating and changing policies for patient care and for allowing visitors. It was critical that these changes be communicated to their teams quickly. With many employees working in various locations, the communications team needed to reach employees wherever they were, from the frontline to the office and their homes. Because non-hospital locations were ordered closed and elective procedures were canceled, UHS had to rethink staffing but didn't want to lose the line of communication with employees who were temporarily at home. These furloughed employees had no access to the corporate intranet, which was originally supposed to serve as a hub for all COVID-19 information. The team quickly realized that the app was the best way to reach their entire staff.
"Healthcare organizations need the right tools to share important COVID-19 information to keep employees and patients safe," said Amy Jenkins, director of client strategy at theEMPLOYEEapp. "theEMPLOYEEapp was able to support UHS with just about every COVID-19 situation you could think of, from safety and security policies, HR communications, updates on employee benefits, and more. UHS also used the app to share positive stories of recovery and teamwork. This was so important for employee morale as they worked together to fight the spread of coronavirus. We are proud that our solution is an effective one for UHS as they continue their courageous work to protect the community."
