INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- For the sixth consecutive year, Tyco (NYSE: TYC) will serve as a lead sponsor of the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors' World Burn Congress being held here through Saturday. The annual event provides hundreds of burn survivors and their families with an opportunity to share experiences, increase knowledge about recovery and learn about the growing burn support network.
"Our commitment to the Phoenix Society and its Phoenix World Burn Congress is one of our most valued partnerships," said Art Jones, Tyco's Vice President, Global Public Affairs. "Tyco's core work involves providing products and systems to save lives and property from fires, therefore we are proud to support burn survivors and their families in their recovery and to share their inspiring messages of hope."
The Phoenix World Burn Congress is among a series of activities that Tyco is sponsoring around the world in October and November as part of its "Tyco Cares" initiative.
"The Phoenix Society and Tyco are committed to ensuring that every burn survivor, their loved ones, and caregivers have the necessary support on their road to recovery," said Amy Acton, CEO of the Phoenix Society.
Local Tyco employees also volunteer at the World Burn Congress, which takes place in different cities each year. In 2013, when the event was held in Providence, R.I., Jim Maymon, District General Manager for Tyco SimplexGrinnell in Boston, was so moved by the experience that he organized a group that raised $28,000 for the Phoenix Society.
"By volunteering for the World Burn Congress and raising funds for the Phoenix Society, we are helping courageous people in need and gaining an even deeper appreciation for the work we do everyday at Tyco," Maymon said. "Our involvement brings a lot of benefits and gives us a truly inspiring cause to rally around."
Tyco's partnership with the Phoenix Society grew out of the shared value that no one should be harmed or perish from a preventable burn or fire-related injury. Through the Phoenix Society's programs, trained advocates and institutional partners, such as fire services, from around the U.S. support initiatives at the local, state and federal levels to advance fire protection measures. This grassroots advocacy engages burn survivors committed to influencing positive changes in their lives, their communities and in their respective governments by making their personal stories and opinions known.
