NEW YORK, April 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Tuck Hospitality Group, restaurant division of iPic Entertainment, presented the New York City premiere of "James Beard: America's First Foodie" this Sunday, April 23. Culinary notables gathered at The Tuck Room in New York City, following the official New York City inaugural screening of "James Beard: America's First Foodie", hosted by Tuck Hospitality Group Chief Operating Officer Chef Sherry Yard, at iPic Theaters in the Fulton Market Building in New York City's Seaport District. Photos and b-roll from the evening's event are now available.
Co-produced by Federici Films LLC and THIRTEEN PRODUCTIONS LLC's American Masters, "James Beard: America's First Foodie" is the first film to chronicle and celebrate America's iconic chef and his lasting influence on the American food scene, documenting his pioneering life's work that inspired the back-to-basics food movement of today. Following its official first screening at the 2017 Sonoma Film Festival, "James Beard: America's First Foodie" received the Audience Award for Best Documentary, adding to the growing list of awards and accolades won by American Masters; after launching in 1986, American Masters has earned 28 Emmy Awards, 12 Peabodys, an Oscar and three Grammys, along with others. The documentary will premiere nationally Friday, May 19 at 9 p.m. ET on PBS, as part of the 31st season of American Masters.
Written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Elizabeth Federici and produced by Federici and acclaimed food writer Kathleen Squires, the film is the result of four years of extensive interviews and in-depth archival research, and features dozens of interviews with Beard's friends and peers, James Beard Award winners and chefs who carry his mantle today, including Jacques Pépin, Daniel Boulud, Martha Stewart and Wolfgang Puck, among other notables. Among the many highlights in the documentary are Jonathan Waxman and Larry Forgione reflecting on Beard's mentorship and its impact on their career; Alice Waters explaining how Beard discovered Chez Panisse; and next generation chefs such as Marc Forgione, Greg Higgins and Naomi Pomeroy discussing how Beard's influence is still felt today.
"We were thrilled to have our friends and foodie family here for this important and exciting moment, honoring the iconic cookbook author, journalist, television celebrity and teacher, James Beard," says Chef Sherry Yard, a celebrated three-time James Beard Award-winning chef, recently inducted into their Who's Who of Food and Beverage in America.
"Sherry and I have had the pleasure of working in this vibrant industry with incredibly creative masters of their crafts," says iPic's Master Bartender and Advanced Sommelier Adam Seger. "It's a pleasure to have hosted this momentous film screening with Tuck Hospitality Group and iPic Theaters for such an outstanding crowd."
Signaling the arrival of the James Beard Awards ceremony later this month, the film screening will attract high profile attendees. The screening closed with a cocktail party at The Tuck Room complete with curated libations by iPic's Master Bartender and Advanced Sommelier Adam Seger. The inspired cocktails—named after memorable James Beard quotes—will be available for order at The Tuck Room bar for the week following the screening.
