During the event, the patients and families at Target House, St. Jude's 96-unit, long-term, apartment-style housing facility, were invited to enjoy an afternoon of fun that included professional artists drawing caricature art of the children enjoying their favorite interests and activities. The art drawn helped highlight the beautiful smiles each of these heroes wears while fighting childhood cancer. Patients and their families also enjoyed kid-friendly food and other activities including games and crafts.
"It was such a privilege for TruGreen to partner with a special organization like St. Jude and be a small part of an event aimed at bringing joy and hope to these deserving children and their families," said Wendy Radtke, senior vice president of human resources at TruGreen. "It's our hope that through our continued support of St. Jude we can truly make a difference in the lives of these children, their families and in the Memphis community. We look forward to continuing to build upon our strong partnership with St. Jude through other similar events."
While TruGreen and St. Jude are both based in Memphis, the desire to support the efforts of St. Jude go far beyond geography. St. Jude is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases – and continued support from organizations like TruGreen means St. Jude can keep its promise that families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food.
Everything St. Jude does is centered on its mission: Finding cures. Saving children.® Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to more than 80 percent since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90 percent, and they won't stop until no child dies from cancer. And that's a cause that TruGreen and its employees truly believe in and want to continue to support.
"The impact that St. Jude has had from a research standpoint is incredible, but equally as important is the impact they have on the lives of the families and children who are given hope for a cure without the burden of paying for treatment or transportation during such a challenging time," said TruGreen CEO David Alexander. "We firmly believe that partnering with St. Jude represents our belief in the value of community and that's supported not only by our corporate office in Memphis but by our branches and teams across the U.S. and Canada."
Let's end childhood cancer together-donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital® today.
