Trend Micro™ Deep Security Product Line Earns Common Criteria EAL 4+ Certification
CUPERTINO, Calif., Oct. 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Trend Micro Incorporated (TYO: 4704;TSE: 4704), a global cloud security leader, today announced that its advanced server and virtualization security solution, Trend Micro Deep Security achieved Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 4 augmented (EAL 4+) certification under the Canadian Common Criteria Evaluation and Certification Scheme. EAL 4+ is the highest assurance level that is recognized globally. As a result, government agencies that require the use of Common Criteria certified products can be assured that the specification, implementation and evaluation of Deep Security has been conducted in a rigorous and standardized manner to meet their security and compliance needs.
Common Criteria is an internationally-accepted and standards-based criterion for IT security evaluation. Recognized in 26 countries, the criterion was developed through the efforts of security experts in the following countries: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand, United Kingdom and United States. They all have recognized the value of Common Criteria certification as a mechanism for identifying products that are suitable in non-sensitive and sensitive (secret) data environments. Trend Micro chose to have Deep Security evaluated against the known and validated protection profile for intrusion detection systems created by the National Security Agency (NSA) of the United States.
"This certification further cements that Trend Micro not only made the right decision investing in virtual security and cloud technology, but that we have also so far been successful in this endeavor," said John Maddison, executive GM of data center business unit at Trend Micro. "The fact that Deep Security 7.5 has been certified to the same EAL level as VMware vSphere 4.0 enables government departments to have increased confidence in the overall security of their virtualized environment and in some cases, help justify the virtualization of sensitive (secret) data processing systems."
All five of the Deep Security protection modules on all supported platforms were certified including: Windows, Linux, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX and on VMware vSphere. Both the Deep Security Virtual Appliance and in-guest Agent-based technologies were included in the certification process. This will achieve the most comprehensive certification for the most comprehensive virtualization and server security solution on the market.
Deep Security was also certified for FIPS 197, FIPS 180-3 and FIPS 186-3 standards as part of this process corresponding to AES, SHA-1/SHA-256 and RSA cryptographic algorithms - respectively. Government agencies, and companies held to the highest security standards, require FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards) certification of enterprise security products.
Deep Security is a server security platform for physical, virtual and cloud servers and offers the industry's first agentless security suite for VMware environments, comprising agentless anti-malware, integrity monitoring, firewall, intrusion prevention and web application protection. With over five million licenses of product shipped, Deep Security customers include Fortune 1000 and Global 100 organizations in financial services, retail, energy and defense, as well as small to mid-sized companies in a broad range of sectors, such as education, healthcare and governments. Deep Security's agentless anti-malware solution in itself recently surpassed the 1000 customer mark.
Trend Micro Deep Security was honored with the Common Criteria EAL 4+ certification at the 12th Annual International Common Criteria Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Trend Micro was awarded the certificate during the event dinner on September 28th.
