TravelNevada Launches 360-Degree Video "Don't Fence Me In" Tour
Participants can enter for a chance to win one of seven ultimate Nevada getaways
CARSON CITY, Nev., Sept. 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Beginning Sept. 2, the Nevada Division of Tourism (TravelNevada) started taking over major events and high traffic areas in three key California cities as part of its first-ever "Don't Fence Me In" 360-degree video and experiential disruptive instillation tour.
Reflecting Nevada's "Don't Fence Me In" attitude, individuals in the San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego areas have the opportunity to experience a 360-degree virtual road trip throughout Nevada. The experience follows a group of young adventurers as they climb, kayak and drive across, around and through the state's epic landscapes.
Visitors to each instillation sidle up to a saloon-style set, put on a Nevada character-themed VR headset, and are instantly transported from their crowded metropolitan setting into awe-inspiring, wide-open locations such as Lake Mead, Valley of Fire State Park, Pyramid Lake, Sand Mountain, Virginia City and Lake Tahoe.
Instillation dates and locations are as follows:
- Sept. 2-4: Sausalito Art Festival
- Sept. 6-7: Pier 39, San Francisco
- Sept. 9-10: The Original Farmer's Market, Los Angeles
- Sept. 12: Santa Monica Place
- Sept. 13-14: Santa Monica Pier
- Sept. 15-17: Kaaboo Del Mar Music/Arts Festival, San Diego
- Sept. 19-21: Gaslamp Square Plaza (Fifth Avenue and L Street), San Diego
"California is one of Nevada's main drive and fly markets, so we want to bring residents an unmatched Nevada experience, knowing the virtual scenery will be a complete contrast to their current physical surroundings," Claudia Vecchio, director of the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, said. "We want to unleash people's adventure mindset by transporting them from a bustling city with crowds of people to wide-open spaces and the most breathtaking landscapes in the country."
For those who stop by any of the activation locations, there will be a chance to win one of seven ultimate Nevada getaways depicted in the 360 video storyline.
While many travel VR experiences have traditionally shown scenes and landscapes, this is one of the first with a character-driven storyline. The VR storyline was developed by Groove Jones, one of the most recognized studios in the United States for augmented and virtual reality work. It took seven days and 20 people across 750 miles to shoot the 360-degree video.
The Nevada Division of Tourism plans to continue to use the saloon setup and the 360-degree video for other consumer, media and travel trade opportunities in the future. The video will also be placed online and on YouTube360.
