One of the first major women's snowboarding events following the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, the contest and its concurrent festival will take place at Bear Mountain Resort in Big Bear, CA during the St. Patrick's Day weekend. Admission to the event is free.
The event will serve as a showcase for the best of women's snowboarding in a contest completely designed by the riders, including top-level boardercross (SBX) and half-pipe competitions. The field of pros will include many of the top-ranked snowboarders in the world, including 10-time X Games Gold Medalist, Lindsey Jacobellis, and Olympic Gold Medalist, Hannah Teter as co-hosts of the SBX and half-pipe disciplines.
The event was designed not only to not showcase the best female snowboarders on the planet, but also to serve as a developmental contest to help scout, encourage, nurture, and mentor the next generation of aspiring female snowboarding pros. More than 100 top amateurs will be competing alongside their heroes.
"This is an event that I am extremely passionate about," said 4-time US Olympian, Lindsey Jacobellis. "It's incredibly important to lay the foundation for the future of women's snowboarding, and this event does an amazing job of empowering women and putting pros and amateurs together in a unique environment so that we can pass along our experiences to the next generation."
"We're thrilled to bring the Snow Pro to Southern California," said Rick Bratman, CEO of ASA Entertainment, the event's production company. "We're especially excited to host the event at Bear Mountain, given their great history of supporting and elevating snowboarding from the very beginning of the sport. We're also grateful to our partners at Toyota, Warner Bros. Consumer Products, the Big Bear Visitors Bureau, Paul Mitchell and SmartyPants for continuing to raise the bar, and the opportunities, for women in action sports."
"Toyota is proud to support such an important initiative for women in snowboarding, and across all walks of life," said Ed Laukes, Group Vice President of Toyota Division Marketing, Toyota Motor North America. "This is a very unique event that embodies the values of our Start Your Impossible campaign. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to take on any challenge and reach for their very best. The athletes competing are incredibly inspirational young women who have achieved great success through hard work, perseverance, humbleness, and overcoming challenges. As a company, it's exciting to play a small role in helping these women move to the next level of their careers and achieve their dreams."
In addition to the high-level snowboarding competition, the event's Festival Village features four live concerts, fitness and yoga classes, female DJs, workshops, autographs, giveaways, sponsor booths, and more – all free and open to the public.
