Touchstone Names The London Company as its Sub-Advisor of the Year
-- Manages High Conviction, Concentrated Portfolios
-- High Active Share Levels for Funds
-- Relies on Deep, Proprietary, Business-focused Research
CINCINNATI, April 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Touchstone Investments has named The London Company (TLC) as its Sub-Advisor of The Year, recognizing the Richmond, Va.-based institutional investment advisor for its contributions towards the firm's goals and its ability to meet its investment objectives.
More information about the firm can be found by visiting, http://www.tlcadvisory.com/.
TLC serves as the sub-adviser to the Touchstone Large Cap Fund, the Touchstone Mid Cap Fund, and the Touchstone Small Cap Fund. All 20 of Touchstone's sub-advisors were considered for the distinction, with the pool ultimately narrowed based on sales and net flows.
"Our voters—from sales, compliance, operations, administration, marketing, and research and product development —singled out TLC's collaborative drive, its long and successful track record, its tenacity when it comes to closing sales, and its ability to connect with advisors through its popular individual holdings materials," said Steven M. Graziano, president of Touchstone Investments.
"The firm has also been exemplary in its management of concentrated portfolios with high conviction and high Active Share, and has been known for its deep fundamental process of selecting securities without over-diversifying. Its disciplined and transparent approach has played a critical role over the long term, helping investors meet their goals with long-term perspectives focused on downside protection."
Since 1994, TLC has strived to maximize investor return and minimize potential loss by applying a principled and disciplined process that relies on facts, not speculation. The investment team shares the same objective of investing with the perspective of a long-term owner.
A byproduct of its differentiated investment management approach is its portfolios with high Active Share* levels, as evidenced by the Touchstone Large Cap Fund at 85 percent, Touchstone Mid Cap Fund at 96 percent, and the Touchstone Small Cap Fund at 99* percent as of March 31, 2016. Active Share is a holdings-based measure used to determine how different a portfolio is from its benchmark. Active Share of 60 percent or higher is indicative of active management. Active Share of 20 percent to 60 percent is considered "closet indexing," and anything lower is labeled passive. Touchstone believes that high Active Share and high manager conviction are good indicators that a strategy has the opportunity to outperform its benchmark, making Active Share a valuable part of manager evaluation and fund analysis.
Touchstone employs a sub-advisor model that offers investors access to institutional asset managers whose strategies are typically not available to the average investor.
"We know Touchstone thrives on the quality of its sub-advisory relationships, and our seasoned investment team has worked to strengthen our partnership on every level, from sales and compliance to marketing and operations," said TLC Founder Stephen M. Goddard, who also serves as the firm's Managing Director and head of its investment team. "We also believe in the value of being different from the benchmark as a way to seek better results for investors. Our client base has grown and diversified over the years, a testament to our ability to shepherd investors through the market's challenges, helping to maximize return and minimize potential loss."
