"Today" Show, "Fox & Friends" Put Spotlight on Sudden Cardiac Arrest

The spotlight is now shining on two teachers from Frisco, Tex., after they used their Cardiac Science Powerheart® AED to save a life.

When Kylee Shea, a 7th grader from Maus Middle School, collapsed from an undiagnosed heart condition before class, teachers Brent Reese and Kristen Goodgion used CPR and an AED to save her life.

Since then, they have received national praise for their actions. They, along with the Shea family, were featured on NBC's "Today" show and Fox News Channel's "Fox & Friends" recently to discuss this emergency situation.

AEDs, while mandated in Texas public schools, are not required nationwide. "I think it should be a nationwide mandate. Every state should be required to have these in schools and public places," explained Sheryl Shea, Kylee's mom, to Today's Matt Lauer.

For right now, however, the Shea family is grateful.

"If it wasn't for this [AED] and for what they did, our daughter still may be here today but not the Kylee we know today," Kylee's dad, Mike Shea, told the "Today" show.
