Tilson Communications Wins 2010 Bernays Award for Best Campaign by a Large Company or Firm
Staples/Do Something 101 National School Supply Drive theme of Tilson's Campaign
BOCA RATON, Fla., Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Tilson Communications, a full service public relations firm, was recently honored by the Gold Coast Public Relations Council, the largest independent organization of public relations and marketing professionals in South Florida, with a Bernays Award for Best Campaign by a Large Company or Firm. The campaign was for Staples' Do Something 101 School Supply Drive.
Staples, Inc., the world's largest office products company, and Tilson Communications, was challenged to make the 2nd Annual Staples/Do Something 101 National School Supply Drive bigger and better than the inaugural campaign by finding more ways to reach teens. Staples partnered with DoSomething.org, a national nonprofit organization that empowers teens to take action in their communities. Goals included: inspiring more teens to "do something" this summer in their communities by collecting new school supplies for underprivileged kids; connecting Staples with teens in a unique and meaningful way to drive traffic with the help of high-profile celebrity Ciara; growing customer and teen participation; increasing cash donations, supply donations and media impressions.
The 2nd Annual Staples/Do Something 101 national school supply drive resulted in 454 million media impressions, more than doubling 2008's results of 211.8 million impressions. The program raised more than $630,000, a 450 percent increase in customer cash donations as compared to $125,000 in 2008. Staples customers also donated more than 2,000 pounds of products, a 131 percent increase in shipments from 2008.
Tilson Communications was also nominated for Best Branding or Image Campaign (Tilson PR on Facebook/@TilsonPR on Twitter) and Best Special Event (Tilson Monthly Tweet-Ups).
This year marked the sixth year of the Bernays Awards, which are awarded every January by the GCPRC. The winners are selected by an independent panel of five local public relations veterans, none of whom are on GCPRC's Board of Directors.
