Thycotic Announces HSM Integration with Thales
New Partnership Enables Customers to Further Improve Security for Critical Passwords Stored in Thycotic Privileged Account Management Solutions
WASHINGTON, April 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Thycotic, a provider of smart and effective privileged account management solutions for global organizations, today announced that its flagship solution, Secret Server, can now be used with Thales hardware security modules (HSMs). This integration will allow Thycotic and Thales customers to implement an additional level of security for privileged account information stored inside Secret Server, controlling IT admins' access to their companies' most critical passwords with a Thales HSM.
HSMs offer enhanced security for companies in industries where privileged account passwords require the highest levels of protection, such as financial services, healthcare and government. HSMs secure the encryption key for privileged account passwords, ensuring that these passwords can only work when stored and used with the HSM device itself. Integrating a privileged account management solution with an HSM effectively prevents IT admins from accessing or sharing encryption keys in an unauthorized fashion, and provides another layer of protection against data breaches for organizational privileged account secrets.
"Companies need to do everything in their power to protect their most sensitive passwords, and using an HSM for privileged account management can help protect against both external and internal threats," said Ben Yoder, product manager at Thycotic. "Implementing an HSM effectively prevents an IT admin from extracting and sharing any privileged account password, even if that IT admin is authorized to access the information."
More than 180,000 IT professionals worldwide are using the Thycotic Secret Server privileged account management solution to securely store, distribute and manage privileged account data such as server passwords, router passwords, local and root accounts, as well as service accounts in a secure, centralized repository. Thycotic has integrated Secret Server with Thales nShield Connect, a network-attached HSM that supports traditional, virtualized and cloud deployments.
"IT admins often have access to a vast amount of sensitive passwords and other information, and it's critical for companies to ensure that this information is managed and used appropriately," said Jose Diaz, Director, Technical and Strategic Business Development at Thales e-Security. "Thycotic offers an innovative privileged account management solution, and this integration with Thales HSMs allows Thycotic customers the opportunity to achieve even greater levels of security for their most sensitive passwords and other privileged account information."
