NEW YORK, Sept. 25, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Today across the nation, more than 15,000 EY professionals will participate in the fifth annual 'EY Connect Day', the firm's annual day of service. This dedicated day of volunteerism provides Ernst & Young LLP professionals the opportunity to spend the day giving back to classrooms, community centers, the environment and other non-profits.
Twenty-two offices across the Northeast region will participate in over 180 volunteer activities which will result in almost 5,000 EY professionals dedicating over 25,000 hours of service to local charity organizations.
Volunteers chose projects that are rooted in the firm's corporate responsibility focus areas of growing the positive effects of entrepreneurs, developing future generations of talent and building a more diverse and inclusive society.

Each local area will offer a variety of volunteer options;
Baltimore, MD- 174 professionals will participate in seven different activities which will result in over 1,044 volunteer hours. Opportunities include assembling packages for newly diagnosed cancer patients, sorting and distributing food for the less fortunate and planting trees in a local neighborhood.
Boston, MA- 1,135 professionals will participate in 37 different activities which will result in over 4,054 volunteer hours. Opportunities include helping with yard cleanup, painting, gardening for a shelter that serves homeless and at-risk families, preparing and serving lunch for a women's shelter, harvesting seasonal crops and tending garden beds for community supported farms.
Buffalo, NY- 60 professionals will participate in four different activities which will result in over 180 volunteer hours. Opportunities include indoor and outdoor cleaning at shelters for families with sick children, sorting donated clothing, and preparing "fun kits" for local organizations that serve children.
Hartford, CT- 71 professionals will participate in five different activities which will result in over 294 volunteer hours. Opportunities include maintenance of riverfront park landscapes by planting, mulching, raking, weeding, pruning, or painting.
Greater Washington- 830 professionals will participate in 19 different activities which will result in over 4,595 volunteer hours. Opportunities include hosting professional workshops (interviewing and presentation skills, and resume writing) and making back-to-school care packages for students; hosting various business workshops, conducting small group business plan coaching and one-on-one mentoring sessions; and helping take care of horses.
Iselin, NJ- 317 professionals will participate in 10 different activities which will result in over 1,138 volunteer hours. Opportunities include preparing or serving food, washing dishes, cleaning tables and floors, shelving food, organizing clothing, answering phone calls, and outdoor work..
Jericho, NY- 74 professionals will participate in three different activities which will result in over 327 volunteer hours. Opportunities include clean-up and sorting the grounds at the fair, making get well cards, gift baskets and care packages for the sick; and providing services and supplies to places that serve those in need.
New York City, NY- 1,500 professionals will participate in 45 different activities which will result in over 5,712 volunteer hours. Opportunities include feeding 1,200-1,400 hungry New Yorkers at an all-inclusive soup kitchen, working in a 20,000 square foot community garden that includes a playground and amphitheater, providing interview coaching and resume writing skills, creating and assembling creative arts & crafts packages which are used by pediatric patients during long hours of hospital stays and repackaging bulk food donations into smaller portions for distribution throughout the city.
Philadelphia, PA (On October 2)- 515 professionals will participate in 17 different activities which will result in over 3,090 volunteer hours. Opportunities include various outdoor projects such as fall clean up and harvesting vegetables, teaming up for a housing makeover to flip and paint houses or participation in a block beautification project and assisting veterans with meals and other activities.
Richmond, VA- 145 professionals will participate in six different activities which will result in over 580 volunteer hours. Opportunities include painting cabin and administrative building interiors; assembling picnic tables; helping clean kennels; walking, grooming and interacting with dogs.
Rochester, NY- 32 professionals will participate in two different activities which will result in over 194 volunteer hours. Opportunities include unloading and sorting donations and conducting a car wash to help raise money for student scholarships.
Secaucus, NJ- 510 professionals will participate in 19 different activities which will result in over 1,849 volunteer hours. Opportunities include service to senior citizens, sorting and packing food at a food bank, clearing vegetation and brush, preparing and restoring the grounds of certified Wildlife Preserve, renovating two group homes and assisting with dog grooming and general maintenance activities.
Stamford, CT- 219 professionals will participate in 12 different activities which will result in over 843 volunteer hours. Opportunities include gardening/weeding at the Wetland Garden and along the river, repairing erosion along the river bank cliffs, assisting with coconut logs along the river bank, cleaning pollution in the Mill River, sorting donated items, greeting donors and assisting clients at a community supported agency.
Syracuse, NY- 30 professionals will participate in two different activities which will result in over 150 volunteer hours. Opportunities include cooking dinner for families and assisting in various tasks that need to be done around the Ronald McDonald house.
Each year, EY professionals throughout the Northeast Region volunteer more than 95,000 hours of their time to nonprofit organizations in the area.
