This Earth Day, glassybaby Partners With Conservation International To Protect 2,000 Acres Of Forest To Help Slow Climate Change And Launches Mother Earth Votive
SEATTLE, April 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- glassybaby, maker of one-of-a-kind, handblown, 100% sustainable, glass votives today announced that it will donate 10% of all glassybaby.com sales in April to Conservation International's 'Protect an Acre' campaign, with the ultimate goal of protecting more than 2,000 acres of tropical forest. glassybaby will match all donations to 'Protect an Acre' dollar for dollar up to $25,000. In honor of Earth Day and to celebrate our precious planet, the company has also launched a signature votive called 'mother earth'-- now available in stores and at glassybaby.com.
Although forests provide the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, reduce pollution and support the livelihoods of millions of people around the world, the statistics paint an alarming picture:
- Despite their immense value, nearly half of the world's forests have been lost.
- Deforestation accounts for about 11% of global greenhouse gas emissions caused by humans — comparable to the emissions from all of the cars and trucks on Earth combined.
- Forests have the potential to offer 30% of the solution to climate change but every year, the planet loses an area of forest the size of England.
"At CI, we know of that climate change is one of the most urgent issues our global community is facing today, and we cannot solve it without protecting our forests. We are so grateful to the glassybaby community for joining us in this important endeavor," said Shyla Raghav, Director of Climate Policy at Conservation International.
"Our collective well-being depends on a clean and healthy planet and the preservation of forestland is one tangible way that we can stop climate change," said Lee Rhodes, Founder, glassybaby.
"As a socially conscious company, we believe you can run a successful business, create beautiful products, promote sustainability and have a positive impact on the world," said Bill Cummings, CEO, glassybaby.
