CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind., Oct. 30, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- While funding for higher education has been greatly diminished nationwide, Wabash College remains committed to young men of promise by offering an affordable and transformational education.
Wabash believes that discovering the cost of college should not come at the end of the search process. The Wabash Promise pledges transparency in the financial aid process to eliminate the misconception that a private education comes with a high price tag.
Our merit aid schedule, http://www.wabash.edu/promise, is available so families can access Wabash scholarship details by GPA and SAT/ACT score, ranging from $17,000 annually to full tuition.
We pride ourselves on providing opportunity regardless of socioeconomic status. One-third of Wabash students are Pell Grant recipients and 40 percent are first-generation college students.
As the liberal arts college for men, we focus on a holistic education that develops intellect, character, and leadership, but are aware that college is often a mechanism for economic advancement. According to payscale.com, Wabash ranks among the top-50 institutions nationally in producing graduates whose salaries are, on average, higher than peer or state institutions.
According to the Equality of Opportunity, Wabash is among an elite group of colleges dramatically successful in moving students up the income ladder. Nearly 75 percent of students who entered Wabash from families in the bottom 40 percent of the income distribution had risen to the top 40 percent within 15 years. This is higher than any liberal arts college in the Midwest and higher than the two largest state universities.
Discussions focusing on cost or debt neglect that a college education often is essential to achieving life's goals. Students from low income families may not realize they can afford an elite education like Wabash.
Wabash's historic commitment to Hoosiers allows us to promise academically qualified Federal Pell Grant recipients, from Indiana, grants that cover the balance of all tuition and fees not covered by government grants. Further, academically qualified students from middle income families (AGI below $100,000) will receive need-based grants lowering Wabash tuition to the equivalent tuition and fees at the state's flagship university.
The Wabash Promise is a transparent look at our commitment to providing an exceptional education at a reasonable cost. In this spirit, we ask every institution statewide to join us in this effort to enable all qualified students to affordably achieve their college dreams.
