The Torkzadeh Law Firm Is Investigating Heart Attack And Stroke Cases Caused By Testosterone Replacement Therapy
LOS ANGELES, March 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Torkzadeh Law Firm (TorkLaw) is currently investigating and accepting cases involving testosterone replacement therapy and any resulting cardiac event such as a heart attack, stroke, blood clots and even death. Testosterone lawsuits are being filed on behalf of victims and their families across the county.
In January 2014, the Food and Drug Administration announced that it was investigating the safety of testosterone replacement drugs after reviewing several studies that showed a significant increase in the risk of heart attack, stroke or other cardiac event.
"All the studies and literature that we've seen over the past few months overwhelmingly point in the direction that not only does the use of testosterone therapy increase the likelihood of suffering a serious injury, but that these side effects have been known for some time," said Reza Torkzadeh, attorney at TorkLaw.
Studies by The Public Library of Science, the Intramural Research Program of the National Cancer Institute, researchers at UCLA and federally funded studies all found that testosterone replacement therapy may double or triple the risk of stroke, heart attack or pulmonary embolism. In the studies, men who are 65 or older were found to have double the risk of heart attack within just 90 days of starting the testosterone therapy. Even more alarming is that in younger men, the risk of heart attack almost triples. The study by the Public Library of Science examined the medical records of more than 55,000 men.
The Journal of the American Medical Association found a 30% increased risk of heart attacks and stroke in men over 65 who start testosterone therapy and The New England Journal of Medicine found a substantial increase in cardiac problems men who used testosterone therapy.
Public Citizen, a consumer advocacy group, has examined 27 testosterone trial studies, of which 13 were funded by the drug companies. The drug company funded studies did not show an increase in cardiac events or heart problems. All 14 remaining trial studies, which were not funded by the drug companies, showed double the increase of cardiac problems.
The following is a list of brand name testosterone treatments:
