PHOENIX, Aug. 29, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Have you ever wished for a dream vacation that transforms your week or year or life? Now is your chance. Brian Kelly, or The Points Guy as he is commonly known, has teamed up with United Airlines to give away one million MileagePlus miles through the fundraising platform Prizeo to help Make-A-Wish® grant more life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. As an added benefit, Kelly will advise one lucky winner on how to maximize those miles for a "Trip That Transforms." The Prizeo launches August 28 in conjunction with the #TripsThatTransform campaign for Make-A-Wish that highlights the importance of travel-related corporate partners and frequent flier mile donors to make wishes involving travel possible. Visit www.prizeo.com/thepointsguy to enter today.
What inspired Kelly to build this Prizeo package? Recently, Kelly learned about Ryan Pickren, who, this summer, became the largest individual airline-miles donor in Make-A-Wish history with his donation of 2.5 million United Airlines MileagePlus miles to the Make-A-Wish Alaska & Washington chapter. Upon visiting the chapter office, Ryan said, "You walk down the halls and you see pictures of kids all around the world. The trips they go on with their families, that's the highlight of their year, their life. It was really powerful."
Inspired by Pickren's kindness and generosity, Kelly put together the ultimate Prizeo prize package, calling on several Make-A-Wish national corporate partners. Thanks to a donation of 500,000 MileagePlus miles from United Airlines combined with 500,000 of his own United miles, one winner will receive everything needed to plan a "Trip That Transforms." This includes one million United Airlines MileagePlus miles, $2,000 in Airbnb vouchers, and Avis services upon arrival at their destination. Topping it off, Kelly will fly the winner to The Points Guy's New York City headquarters to advise him or her on maximizing their one million MileagePlus miles for a dream vacation.
"We're honored to be able to partner with Make-A-Wish on this milestone campaign," says Brian Kelly, CEO of The Points Guy. "At TPG, we truly believe the transformative power of travel, and it is our hope that this dream vacation can bring inspiration, hope and joy to the winner."
"When Make-A-Wish and The Points Guy approached us, we immediately said yes to donating miles," said Sharon Grant, vice president, Community Affairs at United. "One million MileagePlus miles will help create the trip of a lifetime, but even more important is the money this campaign will raise for our longtime partner, Make-A-Wish."
Of the more than 15,400 wishes fulfilled in 2017 by Make-A-Wish America, approximately 77 percent required travel. Throughout the month of August, Make-A-Wish has been celebrating all their travel partners – including American Airlines, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, JetBlue, Allegiant Air, Avis and Airbnb – by sharing stories of wishes come true with #TripsThatTransform.
"A wish trip is more than a vacation. A wish is an important and often necessary part of a child's medical journey. It can be a source of inspiration and positivity for a child undergoing difficult medical treatments," said David Williams, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish America. "We are extremely grateful to The Points Guy and United for hosting this Prizeo campaign which not only brings a great deal of awareness to our mission and our critical need for travel resources, but also will help raise the funds necessary to grant a wish to every eligible child."
