LOUISVILLE, Ky., June 15, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Where is the world's tallest waterslide? How does a green screen work? How much water is in a watermelon? Find out the answers to these questions and more at the all-new edition of Camp Wonderopolis™, an online virtual summer camp that caters to all ages, inspires big-time learning, fits into any schedule… and best of all, is free.
Camp Wonderopolis 2015: Mission to Wonder can help parents address the timeless summer chant of "I'm bored!" with not only the answers to curious questions but also Maker projects, quizzes and games to learn much more. Camp Wonderopolis also helps tackle "summer slide," when children can lose more than two months of learning gained during the school year, in ways that make learning fun and extend it beyond classrooms and into homes and communities.
Children, as well as their parents, will customize their experience with avatars, Wonder Cards®, and Wonder Wall posts along six STEM- and literacy-building tracks, with 42 learning opportunities that mix inquiry, fun, real-world wonders, and more.
Building upon the foundation of last summer's Camp Wonderopolis, when registered Campers mastered 34,000 vocabulary words and completed 13,500 quizzes, this year's edition adds even more opportunities for fun and active learning, including
- all new online Camp Diaries
- an introductory tour of all Camp Wonderopolis has to offer
- an improved Wonder Wall and comments section to share Camper posts
- feedback from Camp headquarters to continuously encourage Campers to keep learning
Camp Wonderopolis is created by the National Center for Families Learning (NCFL) with financial support from Better World Books, and is the official summer program of the popular learning destination Wonderopolis.org.
"Wonderopolis.org inspires curiosity and discovery all year round, but there's something special about summer that inspires exploration and wonder," said Emily Kirkpatrick, vice president of NCFL. "As the days get longer and families have more time on their hands, Camp Wonderopolis energizes children and parents alike and keeps learning alive and well during the summer months."
Bolstered by Wonderopolis.org's enthusiastic online community and partnerships with community-based organizations, libraries, and summer programs throughout the country, Camp Wonderopolis is expected to reach more than 150,000 students.
