The LAGRANT Foundation Celebrates 15 Years By Awarding $250,000 In Scholarships
22 Ethnic Minority Undergraduate Students And 14 Graduate Students Were Selected This Year From Across The Country
LOS ANGELES, May 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The LAGRANT Foundation (TLF) offers its utmost congratulations to the newly selected 2013 scholarship recipients of its 15th anniversary scholarship program. After receiving applications from ethnic minority students across the country in undergraduate and graduate programs related to advertising, marketing and public relations, TLF has selected 36 exceptional students to be the recipients of the scholarship, totaling $250,000.
To commemorate the Foundation's 15th anniversary, TLF will award 22 undergraduate students with $5,000 scholarships and 14 graduate students with $10,000 scholarships. Scholarship winners located east of Chicago will attend the 15th Anniversary Scholarship Recognition Reception and Awards Program in New York City on Monday, May 20, 2013 and winners located west of Chicago will be awarded in Seattle, Washington on Thursday, May 30, 2013. The total dollars to be awarded this year has been increased from 2012 when the Foundation provided $150,000 in scholarships to last year's 22 scholarship recipients. Since its 1998 inauguration, TLF has awarded more than $1.56 million in scholarships to students who continue to share the Foundation's mission of increasing ethnic diversity in the advertising, marketing and public relations industries.

TLF scholarship recipients will participate in a special welcome dinner, career development workshop and have the opportunity to meet with industry professionals in their travels to New York City and Seattle, respectively. SVP of Public Affairs & Communications, Chief Communications Officer of Waste Management Barry Caldwell and Weber Shandwick CEO Andy Polansky will serve as host committee chair and co-chair for the New York reception. Nissan Motor Company Corporate Vice President of Global Marketing Communications Simon Sproule and Waggener Edstrom Worldwide Agency Founder, President of Microsoft Account Worldwide and TLF Board Member Pam Edstrom will serve as host committee chair and co-chair for the Seattle reception.
TLF was established to address the severe lack of ethnic diversity within advertising, marketing and public relations industries. According the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as of 2011 advertising, marketing and public relations jobs are held by a combined total of 8.7 percent of African American/Blacks, 7.3 percent of Asian American/Pacific Islanders and 15.3 percent of Hispanic/Latinos. Today, TLF serves as a career launching pad for ethnic minority students across the United States through its various programs, including career development workshops, internship and entry-level job placements, mentor and fellowship programs and professional development.
