PURCELLVILLE, Va., Feb. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Convention of States Project announced that seven more states have filed their Article V Applications for an amending convention of the states calling for fiscal restraint, limiting the size, scope and jurisdiction of the federal government and term limits. The new states that have filed include Nebraska, Minnesota, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Kansas and Pennsylvania in the past week, giving us the historic 'Seventeen' for the grassroots effort sweeping across the nation.
"We know that D.C. is broken and history shows that the federal government will not restrain itself—with record debt, regulation and taxes," said Mark Meckler, co-founder, the Convention of States Project; "We have two choices: 1) to sit back and hope that someone else fixes things or, 2) the Convention of States option—using the Constitution to bring the only solution that can truly fix what is going on in America. The only viable solution bigger than the problem of an out-of-control federal government is Article V."
Article V applications go to committees in Montana and North Dakota. The Virginia Senate and House will be casting an historic vote for SJ 269 and HJ 497 on Wednesday. The full list of all 17 states that have filed include: New Jersey, New Hampshire, Missouri, Arizona, South Carolina, Virginia, Massachusetts, Montana, North Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, Minnesota, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Kansas and Pennsylvania.
About the Convention of States Project: The Convention of States Project is currently organized in all 50 states, with volunteers, supporters and advocates committed to stopping the federal government's abuse of power. Article V applications have already been passed in Alaska, Florida and Georgia. We stand ready with 32 Prime Sponsors to pass this year and hope to meet the 34 state requirement by the end of 2015.
