SHERMAN OAKS, Calif., Feb. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Catherine Lord, Ph.D., internationally recognized autism expert, will present The Autism Diagnosis and DSM-5, on Wednesday, March 7th at 6:30 p.m. A member of the Neurodevelopment Disorders Work Group that is proposing the diagnostic criteria for autism in the upcoming edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), Dr. Lord will discuss the proposed criteria for autism – a subject that has sparked debate and mainstream media attention. This lecture is open to educators, clinicians, researchers, parents, graduate and undergraduate students and will be held at The Help Group Autism Center, 13164 Burbank Blvd., Sherman Oaks, CA 91401.

Dr. Lord is the Director of the Center for Autism and the Developing Brain, a new autism center at New York Presbyterian Hospital, a collaborative effort among Weill-Cornell Medical College, Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, and the New York Center for Autism, a non-profit autism advocacy organization. Prior to her move to New York, Dr. Lord was the Director of the University of Michigan Autism and Communication Disorders Center (UMACC). She has been involved in the development of the standardized diagnostic instruments for individuals with autism spectrum disorders, including the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (also known as the ADOS), and the Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised (also known as the ADI-R), both considered to be the gold standard assessment measures in the diagnosing of autism. Dr. Lord is the Chair of the Committee on Effectiveness of Early Intervention in Autism of the National Research Council.
