The Geneia Institute And Villanova Partner To Meet ACO Staffing Needs
HARRISBURG, Pa., June 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Geneia Institute and Villanova University College of Nursing today jointly announced a strategic educational partnership to help meet the staffing needs of accountable care organizations (ACOs), patient-centered medical homes (PCMHs), and other risk-based health care models. The first course created as a result of this unique collaboration – Coordinating Care in a Fragmented System – gives frontline nurses and social workers the hands-on, skills-based training they need to become effective ACO and PCMH care coordinators, and begins September 13th.
"As the number of ACOs tops 625, we're seeing an increasing need for care coordinators – that is, clinicians who work closely with patients and their health care team to close gaps in care. In fact, the successful early adopters of ACOs – such as the Beth Israel Deaconess Care Organization Pioneer ACO which generated $15.6 million in shared savings while meeting quality metrics – cite care coordinators as one of the critical success factors," said Heather Lavoie, President of Geneia Innovations and Chief Operating Officer. "That's why The Geneia Institute is proud to have partnered with the Villanova University College of Nursing to create the Coordinating Care in a Fragmented System course."
Coordinating Care in a Fragmented System provides the expert training and skills-development to help health care organizations move successfully towards accountable care and population health management. Clinicians learn how to effectively manage patient populations to improve health outcomes and satisfaction while simultaneously reducing costs. The course is a combination of in-person sessions on Villanova's campus near Philadelphia and online learning. For course details, see http://geneiainstitute.com/coordinatingcare/.
This partnership builds upon Villanova College of Nursing's track record of educating nursing professionals and preparing them to succeed in the ever-evolving health care environment. "As the result of the Affordable Care Act, health care is in the midst of unprecedented change – one that requires new and experienced clinicians to learn different skills. Together, Villanova and The Geneia Institute are creating courses to prepare health care professionals for the rigors of ACOs and PCHMs," said Lynore DeSilets, EdD, RN-BC, Assistant Dean & Director, Villanova University College of Nursing Continuing Education in Nursing and Healthcare.
