The Five O'Clock Club Names 92nd Street Y's Eric Lange 2015 HR Hero of the Year
NEW YORK, March 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Five O'Clock Club, a leading national outplacement and career coaching organization, named Eric Lange its 2015 HR Hero of the Year at a reception at the Westwood Gallery on March 11. The award recognizes the contributions made by individuals in HR in business or the community.
Lange, Associate Executive Director of HR, 92nd Street Y, was the winner from a slate of finalists in four categories, nominated by industry peers for their accomplishments in their respective organizations:
- Taking Risk to Elevate the Strategic Role of HR
Eric Lange, Associate Executive Director of HR, 92nd Street Y
Through his leadership, determination and vision, Lange has transformed an HR function, previously positioned on the sidelines of the organization, to one whose integration and involvement is now actively sought to ensure the success of 92Y. He successfully renegotiated contracts to reign in runaway health costs and has built on that success by championing investments in new technologies to attract the best talent and improve communications within the organization. - Outstanding Mentorship
Suzanne Jakstavich, SVP Human Resources, Avalon Bay Communities
A natural mentor with an uncanny ability to find and develop untapped talent, Jakstavich has helped countless people flourish under her leadership. - Outstanding Volunteerism
Fred Strobel, Executive Director, Human Resources, Morgan Stanley
In his involvement with Tuesday's Children, an organization that promotes long-term healing for those impacted by the events of 9/11, Strobel has personally coached more than 100 young adults who lost a parent on that tragic day. He has also helped to build a network of HR professionals to help break down the doors to a career for these young adults. - Terminating with Dignity
Minerva Garcia, VP, Human Resources, Accordant Media
Garcia showed compassion and tenacity when faced with the need to terminate a sizable group of long tenured employees at her prior company. She ensured that they received extra medical coverage, outplacement services, adequate notice and reference letters.
"We want to offer congratulations to all the nominees and this year's winner, and are proud to recognize these 'unsung heroes' for their accomplishments," said Darren Kimball, CEO of The Five O'Clock Club. "When we started this award in 2006, it had just one category. Now, thanks to the broader conversation we enjoy with the HR community through our HR Network professional seminar series, we're pleased to expand the award to include three new categories."
