NEW YORK, Oct. 15, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the Delta brand announced its partnership with Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum and acclaimed interior designer Bobby Berk to explore designing with the senses in mind. With the unveiling of a conceptual design, the program reveals how brands like Delta shape the future of design for the home. The concept, named Delta Avvalo, is inspired by Cooper Hewitt's "The Senses: Design Beyond Vision" exhibition.
"The Delta brand is rooted in a passion for innovation. We pride ourselves on pushing the boundaries of both design and technology," said Laura Brooks, Delta brand marketing director. "The collaboration with Bobby Berk and design-minded curators at Cooper Hewitt helps us reimagine our product category and explore new ways to interact with water."
As part of the brand's Design Beyond™ initiative, the Delta Faucet industrial design team and host Bobby Berk will highlight the importance of sensorial experiences in today's landscape and where the future of design could possibly lead. The discussion will culminate with the reveal of the Delta Avvalo concept, a prototype that embodies the softness and fluidity of water as an art form and invigorates the senses through sight, touch and sound.
A play on the Italian word for "drape cloth," the Delta Avvalo concept was inspired by the Renaissance art observed during the Delta Faucet design team's recent trip to Milan Design Week. The conceptual installation is touch-sensitive with the help of a triangular interface which controls the flow and temperature of the water. The Delta Avvalo concept evokes a serene sensation, where nature collides with modern aesthetics to allow further exploration around the endless possibilities of water.
"Sensorial design, which seeks to appeal to all of the senses holistically, is so important in today's tech-driven landscape," said interior designer Bobby Berk. "The Delta Faucet design team and I share a belief that home design must awaken one's senses. We strive for an environment that leverages technology without losing sight of the physical experience – design that is both functional and emotional."
In addition to the installation reveal, event attendees will have the opportunity to visit "The Senses: Design Beyond Vision" exhibition supported by the Delta brand, which examines how multisensory design amplifies people's ability to explore the world.
As part of National Design Week, the Delta Faucet industrial design team will also partner with Cooper Hewitt to offer a workshop with local teachers in New York City to underscore the importance of science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) education.
"Both partners share a commitment to make great design accessible to all, as well as an appreciation for design excellence and innovation," said Ruki Ravikumar, director of education for Cooper Hewitt. "The Educator Open House workshop expands upon the Delta brand partnership in the second year of our collaboration and extends design education and the proponents of STEAM into the minds of future generations."

ABOUT BOBBY BERK
Celebrity designer, Bobby Berk's rise to fame in the home design world didn't happen overnight. Since 2006, Bobby Berk Home's retail division has consistently provided customers with a unique approach to modern design. Epitomizing hip, minimalist urban luxury, Berk's designs reflect a stylish and youthful spirit that perfectly fits any cool, relaxed lifestyle.
