The Countdown Begins For Highly Anticipated October 12, 2017 Wharf Grand Opening
Countdown Clock on Maine Avenue Set to Begin the One Year Countdown
WASHINGTON, Oct. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Following more than a decade of planning and development, The Wharf kicks off a 365-day countdown until its grand opening by unveiling a countdown clock visible from Maine Avenue. The clock signifies a commitment by Hoffman-Madison Waterfront (HMW), developer of The Wharf, to substantially complete the First Phase of the mile-long waterfront neighborhood by Oct. 12, 2017.
One year from today, The Wharf will open with nearly 225,000 square feet of office space, more than 175,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space, 870 residences, three unique hotels, four public piers, a 6,000-person concert hall and cultural facility, a new regional water taxi hub, the relocated Capital Yacht Club, nearly 5-acres of waterfront green space, a new below-grade public parking facility and much more.
The offerings at The Wharf are linked by a European-inspired Wharf Street—paved in stone, shaded by trees, lined with a wooden bench at the water's edge, connected with cutting edge technology and distinguished by unparalleled amenities.
With more than 75 shops and restaurants led by the most acclaimed local chefs, The Wharf will be home to an unduplicated mix of businesses and residential choices.
"This clock serves as a reminder that after 10 years of hard work, multiple acts of Congress and approval from more than two dozen Federal and District agencies, we are nearing the finish line for the completion of Phase I of The Wharf, and our vision of a truly transformative waterfront community in Southwest DC becomes reality," said Monty Hoffman, Founder and CEO of PN Hoffman. "We are working with our many partners and tenants to ensure that residents and visitors to The Wharf will be able to enjoy a vibrant mix of exhilarating experiences from day one."
"We are grateful to the many parties who have worked alongside us to make The Wharf a reality," said Amer Hammour, Chairman of Madison Marquette. "These include the Mayor and representatives from her office, City Council leaders, Members of Congress, federal agencies, civic groups, and other visionaries who have been instrumental in helping us reach this milestone. From fine dining, residential, hospitality, and office to outdoor recreation and cultural events, The Wharf is benchmarking a new level of excellence for urban waterfront development," Hammour added.
A reimagined and expanded 200-year-old Fish Market environment, along with new day docks and the 1000 Maine trophy office tower will open in time for the blooming of the beloved Cherry Blossoms in spring of 2018. Phase II of The Wharf will include additional residential, retail and office space and a rebuilt Wharf Marina is set to deliver in the spring of 2021.
