The Conference Board and United States Olympic Committee Launch Team USA Leadership Experience
New executive leadership development program draws on lessons of coaching, resilience, and high performance
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Aug. 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Conference Board and the U.S. Olympic Committee today announced the launch of The Conference Board/Team USA Leadership Experience, a distinctive executive development program hosted at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (OTC) in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Participants in the two-and-a-half day experiential program will be immersed in the high-performance world of Olympic and Paralympic sports. They will share dialogue with a mix of elite coaches, athletes, sports scientists, and others involved in the Olympic and Paralympic Movements, take part in Olympic and Paralympic sports, and enjoy behind-the-scenes access to the OTC. Executives will emerge from the program with strategies for creating resiliency, improving coaching, and optimizing high-performing talent in their organization.
"Olympians amaze us with their physical gifts," said The Conference Board President and CEO Jonathan Spector, "but individual greatness alone isn't enough. America's elite athletes and coaches also have to be top-notch managers of time, talent, and resources. Participants in our new joint program with the USOC will go beyond the iconic moments on television to discover leadership insights relevant to their own work."
The Conference Board/Team USA Leadership Experience will hold its first session November 12–14 and enrollment is now open. The Conference Board is also working with select companies to develop and deliver customized versions of the program for teams and small groups.
"All of us at the USOC are continually inspired by the commitment to excellence in practice and on display at the Olympic Training Center," said Rick Adams, chief of sport operations, USOC. "We look forward to welcoming the Conference Board program participants and hope they will be similarly inspired by their experiences at the OTC and the time spent with our elite athletes, coaches and sports professionals."
The program is designed to be fast-paced and immersive. "Experiential programs create key insights critical to the success of senior executives," said Jeff Jackson, Executive Director of Leadership & Experiential Programs at The Conference Board, whose team helped shape the program with the USOC. "The Conference Board/Team USA experience is a catalyst for improvement of personal and team leadership. Through a variety of approaches, including kinesthetic and experiential learning, we believe executives will discover new ways of challenging themselves and leading their people."
The Conference Board/Team USA Leadership Experience introduces concepts and approaches directly translatable to the business environment. Leaders will learn how to turn setbacks into opportunities for growth through case studies, involving seminal events in Olympic competition. Unique approaches to individual and team coaching and creating resiliency are also discussed with some of the top Paralympic and Olympic coaches.
The Colorado Springs program joins a portfolio of immersive leadership experiences from The Conference Board, including the Apollo Experience in Houston and Cape Canaveral and programs based at the battlefields of Gettysburg, Normandy, and Waterloo.
