HERNDON, Va., Dec. 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Children's Center Rehabilitation Hospital (TCC) in Bethany, OK, a suburb of Oklahoma City, has implemented Harris Healthcare's Novus ClinDoc, an advanced clinical documentation application linked to QCPR, its electronic health record (EHR).
TCC worked with Harris Healthcare to configure three care notes, specific to their workflows: an Admit H&P, a Progress Note, and a Discharge Summary. Currently, 16 clinicians and 5 case managers are using Novus ClinDoc. In addition to Admit H&Ps and Discharge Summaries as needed, the care teams complete approximately 50 progress notes per day using Novus ClinDoc.
As a veteran pediatrician, Darin Brannan, M.D., and Vice President of Medical Informatics at TCC is familiar with the struggles clinicians experience as they attempt to document patient care within an EHR. As such, when asked to participate as a Beta partner for the new Novus ClinDoc application, Dr. Brannan jumped at the chance.
Novus ClinDoc eliminates the cumbersome and time-consuming steps required to review patient data, re-work notes, and re-do lost notes—all while supporting collaboration. "We were really interested in the concept of a review pane," Dr. Brannan says. "With Novus ClinDoc, information from QCPR—information we have already entered—is summarized and displayed alongside our current note."
Additional time-saving features include:
- Unique ability to "carry-forward" prior documentation.
- Auto-save, which eliminates lost work and re-work.
- Problem-based note templates that organize and simplify data, and are also easier to search.
TCC's Novus ClinDoc implementation began in mid-July, and included rigorous template review, with testing for accuracy and functionality before going live on October 25th. "We've had a phenomenal experience," Dr. Brannan explains. "No negative impacts on workflow. Substantial reductions in time to document. In totality, Novus ClinDoc creates a much better user experience with a more professional impact."
"The Children's Center has been an excellent Beta partner," says Santina Allen, Sr. Executive Vice President, Harris Healthcare, Clinical Solutions. "The TCC team would see patients all day, provide testing feedback to us, and then be back again the next day to test out the resolutions we delivered overnight. The focus on continuous improvement helped us deliver software that improves the clinician experience, and ultimately patient care. A major benefit is the time the care team gains—time they can use to focus on the children in their care."
