CHICAGO, May 2, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program (Clinical Psy.D.) at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology's Chicago Campus has been granted continued accreditation for seven years by the American Psychological Association (APA), the only organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit doctoral-level health service psychology programs.
APA accreditation is recognition that the program meets the rigorous standards set by the APA's Commission on Accreditation (CoA), and that students receive training by adequately trained and numbered faculty within a program that is sequentially organized and well-resourced. The Chicago School (TCSPP) is one of the leading nonprofit universities devoted to psychology, and related behavioral health services.
"APA accreditation is confirmation of the commitment our faculty and staff have to the education of our students and to the profession of psychology," said Chicago Campus Dean Tiffany Masson, Psy.D. "Meeting the standards established by CoA speaks to the efficacy of the program, and means that our program offers students a comprehensive knowledge base that will equip them well for licensure and provide them with increased job opportunities."
The Chicago School's Chicago Campus was founded in 1979 and is the University's founding and largest campus. The Psy.D. Program first achieved APA accreditation in 1987.
"I am proud of the work faculty and staff have done to make our program a successful one, one that has transformational impact on students and the practice of clinical psychology," said Clinical Psy.D. Department Chair Dr. Kim DellAngela. "Accreditation from the APA is the best endorsement a doctoral clinical psychology program can receive, and we are thrilled to have earned it for another seven years.
"Congratulations to Campus Dean Dr. Tiffany Masson, Department Chair Dr. Kim DellAngela, the program faculty, and the students! Continued accreditation of our founding program, the one that started it all, is an acknowledgment of the success of our University's unique curricular and training model, and of the unstinting dedication of our faculty, staff and students. I am proud of the effort they have put forth for this well-deserved achievement," remarked The Chicago School President Michele Nealon, Psy.D.
The Clinical Psy.D. Program on TCSPP's Washington, D.C. Campus achieved APA accreditation in 2016.
