The American College to Award Its Highest Honor, The Huebner Gold Medal, to Robert B. Plybon, CLU®, ChFC®
BRYN MAWR, Pa., Oct. 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Robert B. Plybon, CLU®, ChFC®, President of Plybon and Associates Inc. in Greensboro, North Carolina has been selected by The American College, the nation's premier financial services educator, to receive the institution's highest honor - the Huebner Gold Medal. The award ceremony honoring Plybon will take place during the President's Dinner at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City on Sunday, December 5, 2010.

The Huebner Gold Medal is named for Dr. Solomon S. Huebner, founder of The American College. It has been awarded annually since 1975 and honors the special individuals whose support of The College and its programs, and whose dedication to education and professionalism, have been of particular meaning to the mission and progress of the institution. The award recipients are recognized each year at the President's Circle Dinner amid some of The American College's most dedicated supporters.
Plybon began his career in the insurance industry in 1972, as a representative of the Home Life Insurance Company. Assuming the mantle of leadership at Plybon and Associates, a family owned business for more than 60 years, he established a reputation for providing professional guidance with unsurpassed client loyalty.
He has been a qualifying and life member of the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) since 1977, as well as past President, and speaker at numerous organizational events. Plybon is also an inductee into the Home Life Insurance Company's Hall of Fame.
Plybon served as Chairman of The American College Board of Trustees from 2007 – 2009. As a member of the Board of Trustees, he also served on a number of committees including the Nominating; Advancement; Certification; and Budget and Finance committees. Plybon has also been a member of the Board of Directors of The American College Foundation.
As the past Chairman of the Board of the Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education (LIFE), Plybon helped the non-profit organization dedicate time to addressing the public's growing need for information and education about life, health, disability, and long-term care insurance. He is also a past Trustee of the Life Underwriter Training Counsel (LUTC) and has dedicated his time to the Association for Advanced Life Underwriting (AALU) as its past President.
Plybon earned his BS in Business Administration from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, and went on to earn his Chartered Life Underwriter® (CLU®) designation in 1975, and his Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®) designation in 1982 from The American College. The John Newton Russell Award was conferred on Plybon in 2003 by NAIFA and is considered by many to be the highest honor in the insurance industry.
The Huebner Gold Medal Recognition Wall located on The College's campus will add Plybon's name to the list of other prestigious industry luminaries that have earned this singular recognition. The wall includes the names of every medal recipient since the award's inception.
