The Alternative Board (TAB) Affiliated CEO Leads Business to Tennessee's Highest Performance Excellence Honor
The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority soared under the guidance of Raul Regalado.
NASHVILLE, Tenn., Jan. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Alternative Board (TAB), the international leader of business coaching and peer boards, is pleased to announce that the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) has received the Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence's (TNCPE) Excellence Award. Raul Regalado served as the Chief Executive Officer at the MNAA from 2001 to 2012, during which time Mr. Regalado became a board member with The Alternative Board of Nashville from 2005 to2012.
Raul Regalado became CEO of the MNAA in 2001, when the country was in the midst of a minor recession. Then, the September 11 attacks made things much worse for the airport industry. Seeing a need for drastic change in his company's business plan, Mr. Regalado began examining the benefits of strategic planning. At the time, no airport was using a strategic business planning process. Mr. Regalado and his executive team developed metrics to measure the performance of the airport, and revised these metrics and their overall goals every two to three years. During the first revision, the executive team noticed both positive and negative trends and saw the need for a tool to address the areas that were trending negatively. After examining his options, Mr. Regalado decided that the Baldrige Criteria was the best tool to grow the MNAA. Raul's team implemented the mapping and reengineering processes associated with the Baldrige Criteria in 2008, and the rest is happy history.
The TNCPE's Excellence Award is modeled after the National Baldrige Performance Excellence Program; the nation's highest presidential honor for performance excellence. Previously, the MNAA had been recognized by TNCPE at the Interest Award level, and at the Commitment Award level. 2012 is the first year the TNCPE bestowed its highest honor upon the Nashville based international airport. Nashville International Airport is the first and only airport in the country to be recognized at this level of Baldrige Excellence.
Since his retirement in June of 2012, Mr. Regalado has kept busy as the owner and principal consultant for Raul Regalado and Associates. His business is a matrix organization providing consulting services to small and mid-sized businesses. Though he vacated his seat as a board member of The Alternative Board when he retired, Dick Wallace, owner of The Alternative Board Nashville, remains Mr. Regalado's personal business coach. Raul is also in the process of becoming a Certified Facilitator/Coach for The Alternative Board.
Speaking of The Alternative Board, Mr. Regalado says: "It's difficult for me to overstate the importance of the advice that I received from my peer business owners in The Alternative Board," he continued "professionally, I don't know if I would be where I am today without TAB."
The Alternative Board would like to commend Raul for leading his organization to receive this prestigious award. We wish you luck with your retirement, your business, and your continued involvement with The Alternative Board.
