Teradata Learning won in the category "Operational Training and Development Excellence" for its Teradata MBA (Moving Business Ahead) for New Hires, a development program for salespeople that begins the first day on the job and provides a roadmap for continuous learning.
"The Teradata MBA program has instilled a culture of accountability both for new hires who must complete the six-part program, and for our sales managers who support, facilitate and reinforce this program by regularly engaging with each new associate, " said Teradata Chief Learning Officer Jim Stewart.
Teradata Learning also won in the category, "Learning and Talent Technology Excellence," for its computer-based training that allows customer service associates to practice guided labs on a virtual machine. Teradata has applied the concept of cloud computing to facilitate learning through a self-paced course incorporating standard meeting and new distance learning tools. The solution has produced significant savings on equipment and travel costs, while maintaining performance results consistent with traditional classroom training.
"We've improved the effectiveness of our training while reducing the overall costs to make our new associates smarter, faster, and to make sure our customer service associates are ready to assist in implementations of our latest products," said Darryl McDonald, Teradata's executive vice president, applications, business development and chief marketing officer. "We're proud of our Learning team for earning this recognition of their accomplishments."
Stewart will speak at the Bersin & Associates IMPACT 2011 research conference in April, where he will participate in a panel discussion on the topic of innovative uses of learning technology.
Said Josh Bersin, president of Bersin & Associates, "Teradata's learning team was especially effective at integrating informal and collaborative learning, allowing sale managers and new hires to delve deep into skills, knowledge and practice, to accelerate productivity. Equally impressive was the company's global virtual classroom for customer service associates, which proved that virtual delivery of learning – even for complex technical training – can achieve the same or better results as traditional, in-person methods."
