Tellabs Boosts Its OTN Offering
Tellabs® 7100 system reduces transport network cost and enhances customers' service offerings with high-capacity OTN switching
NAPERVILLE, Ill., March 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Driven by high-speed Internet, high-definition video, and business services, network traffic keeps growing exponentially, forcing service providers to add more and more bandwidth while reducing cost to maintain profitability. Now, service providers can better use the current capacity of their networks and enhance their service offerings. Standardized OTN (Optical Transport Network) switching meets these network needs.
OTN switching on Tellabs® 7100 Optical Transport System enables service providers to aggregate and encapsulate a variety of traffic, including native Ethernet and SONET/SDH, and transport it as an aggregated traffic bundle across backbone networks. The new OTN offering improves traffic delivery by reducing the service provider's overall cost per bit of transport by as much as 80%. It also enhances business and enterprise services by offering a low latency solution that is service transparent—multiple customers' traffic can ride on the same wavelength and reach its destination quickly, securely, and reliably. Offering the capability to scale to 100 Gbps per optical wavelength and switching rates of more than 1Tbps, the Tellabs OTN solution provides capacity to support continuous bandwidth growth well into the future.
"With dynamic optical networking, packet switching and OTN technology on one platform, service providers can rely on unparalleled flexibility and resiliency in their optical networks," said Dan Kelly, executive vice president, Tellabs global products. "With OTN on the Tellabs 7100® system, providers can scale as their networks grow and cost-efficiently aggregate all services to create a truly converged transport network."
Mobile and wireline service providers, cable operators and government agencies can all apply OTN switching technology and the flexibility, scalability, and reliability it offers, to reduce cost and improve the efficiency of their transport networks.
