TeliStat™ Introduces Innovative Healthcare Unit to Long Island
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y., Aug. 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of Governor Cuomo's Statewide Healthcare Facility Transformation Program, Brookhaven Healthcare Facility, in East Patchogue, received a grant for $1,520,940 to implement a TeliStat™ Restorative Care Unit (TRCU). Brookhaven was the only nursing facility on Long Island to receive funding based on their proposal to build this groundbreaking unit.
The 160-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility will utilize the grant funding to replicate a proprietary TeliStat™ Restorative Care Unit (TRCU). This revolutionary concept, developed by Dr. Anthony Bacchi, is designed to treat higher acuity patients more effectively in a nursing home setting.
The TRCU delivery model will provide patients with noninvasive monitoring of their cardiac performance through state-of-the-art telemetry and the ability to monitor essential vital signs in real-time, thereby enabling physicians to intervene immediately in serious medical situations. The TRCU's comprehensive real-time observation includes monitoring of blood pressure, pulse, pulse oximetry, cardiac output, cardiac index, systemic vascular resistance, stroke volume, cardiac rhythm, ST elevation and depression. Additionally, the units are equipped with telemedicine devices allowing for bedside medical assessment avoiding the need to refer the patient for a hospital evaluation.
Beyond the advanced technology, nurses in the unit are certified in advanced cardiac life support, intravenous IV insertion, telemetry expertise, and many other competencies not typically seen in skilled nursing home settings. Nurses work with interdisciplinary teams of physicians and physician extenders who collaborate to achieve higher quality outcomes for their patients.
The Brookhaven Grant was complementary to a prior New York State grant of $5 million awarded to TeliStat™ in 2016 as part of a 3-year pilot demonstration program to improve patient care and reduce avoidable hospital readmissions throughout the state.
Brookhaven Health Care Facility continually receives 5 star ratings from the federal government and was the only facility in Suffolk County to have been listed in the first quintile of New York State's quality benchmarking initiative for four consecutive years.
