Techneos' Sean Conry Wins Next Gen Market Research Disruptive Innovation Award
VANCOUVER, Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ - Techneos today announced that Sean Conry, Vice President of the corporation and AJ Johnson, Vice President at Ipsos Open Thinking Exchange have won the Next Gen Market Research Disruptive Innovation Individual Award for their collaboration in the area of self-completion mobile digital ethnography.
Next Gen Market Research (NGMR), a leading online networking group of market research professionals presented the first annual "Disruptive Innovator" awards celebrating progress-by-force in research at IIR USA's The Market Research Event (TMRE) in San Diego on Tuesday November 9th. NGMR Award winners participated in the Next Gen Market Research panel where they discussed the future of market research and covered topics from DIY to Social Media Research, Text Analytics and Privacy.
The need for the Disruptive Innovation Award, according to Tom H. C. Anderson, managing partner of Anderson Analytics, LLC, and founder/moderator of NGMR is well-explained by his fellow NGMR advisory board and nomination committee member Gordon Morris, Global Insights Manager at Sony Ericson.
"The market research industry is, by nature, introverted, intellectual and risk averse. It is not given to exploring new techniques, but instead revises and refines existing techniques in an attempt to innovate… In an industry often lacking genuine innovation, it's important that we recognize and celebrate those among us who achieve such shifts. In so doing we inspire the dreamers among us to find the next one," said Gordon Morris.
Sean Conry and AJ Johnson utilized the Techneos SODA® solutions suite to combine quantitative and rich qualitative data collection across multiple mobile OS platforms via research Apps. They leveraged mobile data and GPS location capture with unstructured data such as photos to gain a deeper understanding of people's moods, environments and decisions.
While researchers normally prescribe when feedback is wanted from people employing a "push" approach, reaching out to people, asking to hear from them, Sean and AJ turned the tables on this traditional method. Their research enabled people to provide insights and share opinions when and where it was important to them and challenged current methodological views of the role that respondents can and should play in research. Their groundbreaking study also challenged assumptions of "typical" consumer segments, as well as which segments could be targeted using mobile methods.
