NEW YORK, Sept. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- This past week, global superstar TAYLOR SWIFT set a new record at Mediabase for "Most Top 40 and Hot AC Stations To Add The Song In First Week" with her latest single "Shake It Off", being added by 277 stations. It's the highest Billboard Top 40 chart debut since 1993 as it ties with Mariah Carey's #12 single "Dreamlover" from that year and Taylor's first back-to back song to top Billboards's Hot 100 chart.
"Shake It Off" is also the highest charting debut ever recorded at the Mediabase Hot AC format, coming in at #10*. It is the largest one week spin gain ever recorded on Mediabase's Top 40 and the Hot AC charts.
Penned by SWIFT, Max Martin and Shellback, the song serves as the lead-off single from her forthcoming album, 1989 [Big Machine Records], available in stores and via digital retailers October 27, 2014 and pre-buy now on TaylorSwift.com, iTunes and Target.
Achieving stunning success, "Shake It Off" received 176 adds at Top 40 and 101 adds at Hot AC, the most adds in a single week in the history of Mediabase's Addboard.
This milestone is another landmark for the seven time Grammy Award-winning multi-platinum superstar, and it lays the groundwork for her most sonically cohesive album and highly anticipated impending release, 1989.
Philippe Generale, President/C.E.O. of RCS/Media Monitors/Mediabase remarked, "The entire Mediabase team extends a sincere congratulations to everyone at Big Machine and Republic Records for the standout achievements made by TAYLOR SWIFT this week at Mediabase. As she clocks 176 adds at Top 40 this becomes the largest number of adds in a single 7-day period in the history of the Mediabase Add Board. Also, the largest spin gains on the Top 40 and Hot AC published charts at +7787 and +2856, as well as the record-setting top 10 chart debut on Hot AC. It's an honor and a pleasure to report all of the exceptional accomplishments made by artists on the Mediabase charts – the most-recent belonging to TAYLOR SWIFT."
Alissa Pollack, EVP Music & Partner Integrations at Clear Channel Networks and Mediabase remarked, "History was indeed made at Mediabase. TAYLOR SWIFT pulling in 176 Top 40 adds in her first full 7 days is a new record on the Mediabase Add Board. TAYLOR SWIFT is the latest superstar to rewrite some of our historical chart records. Mediabase is honored to be the industry standard by which records – such as the ones by TAYLOR SWIFT this week are maintained. Congratulations to TAYLOR SWIFT, Big Machine, and Republic Records on this history-making week!"
The song's music video also accrued an impressive 68 million views and counting on VEVO after premiering earlier this week.
