Tax Cuts or Increases on this Week's Agenda; Will Harry Work to Help or Hurt Taxpayers?
LAS VEGAS, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- It looks as though Congress will soon decide whether to extend President Bush's tax cuts or allow them to expire. Expiring tax credits mean that taxes will increase, and that will have a broad impact on the economy. Additionally, the White House has proposed new tax increases on upper income earners who are the small business owners who are the lifeblood of our nation's economy.
"Sen. Reid has been largely silent on his plans to push the Democratic tax increases through the Senate. Nevadans need to know now whether Sen. Reid plans to raise taxes now or during the post-election lame duck session. Nevadans would also like to know how much responsibility he's willing to take for the current sorry state of Nevada's economy, since he seems to be avoiding responsibility for the actions of the party he leads in the U.S. Senate," said Danny Tarkanian, Chairman of 1001 Reasons to Vote Against Harry Reid.
During a recent interview on the ABC News/Washington Post "Top Line" program, Reid stated that, "I had nothing to do with the massive foreclosures here," adding that he also had no part in contributing to the state's dismal unemployment figures. As the Democratic Majority Leader in the U.S. Senate, Sen. Reid is responsible for the progress of the Democratic agenda, such as determining which bills will be voted on and when.
"Sen. Reid could easily have thwarted any of the TARP bills, bailouts or other job-killing bills if he wanted to. Instead, he helped President Obama and Speaker Pelosi by ramming them through the Senate. Now he wants to avoid responsibility for his actions. Nevadans deserve better," concluded Tarkanian.
Recent polling conducted by the Las Vegas Review Journal finds that an overwhelming majority (http://media.lvrj.com/images/4744387.jpg) of Nevadans feel that the Obama economic agenda that Sen. Reid pushed through the Senate has hurt the economy or has had little effect.
