WASHINGTON, Dec. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- As a prelude to its 13th Annual Tax Policy and Practice Symposium in February, the Tax Council Policy Institute (TCPI) will host a live Webcast, "Business Tax Reform: Sorting the Moving Pieces," on Tuesday, Dec. 13, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. (ET).
Sharing their insights during the Webcast panel discussion will be:
- Mark Prater, minority deputy staff director and chief tax counsel on the U.S. Senate Finance Committee and formerly staff director of the U.S. Congress Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, also known as the "Super Committee."
- Dave Hughes, tax advisor to the U.S. Senate Finance Committee and former vice president of tax at two Fortune 500 companies.
- Ray Beeman, tax counsel and special advisor for tax reform for the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means.
- John Buckley, visiting professor of law at Georgetown University Law Center, who formerly served as the chief Democratic tax counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means.
The Webcast will be presented on behalf of TCPI by KPMG LLP, the U.S. audit, tax and advisory firm, that will serve as program manager for the upcoming TCPI Symposium, "The New Realities of Tax Risk Management: Navigating risk in a complex world," scheduled for Feb. 15-16, 2012, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Washington, D.C.
"The debate over business tax reform continues and intensifies amidst numerous proposals on the issue," said Hank Gutman, a KPMG principal and former chief of staff of the U.S. Congressional Joint Committee of Taxation, who will serve as moderator of the Webcast. "Sorting out what is real and what is not is precisely what this Webcast will attempt to do.
"At the end of the day, the Congress must act on the reform legislation," Gutman added. "Our distinguished group of panelists will share their views on the factors that may ultimately determine the outcome of the debate, the practical obstacles that Congress must address and the substantive results of the process."
Parties interested in attending the Webcast can register by logging on to the following link: http://www.kpmginstitutes.com, and accessing the "Upcoming Webcast" section. The event qualifies for one Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit through program manager KPMG.
